There are lots of houses on vrbo.com. Ithaca may be a good location with a little more to do than some of the smaller towns.

Ithaca is a good location- Home of Cornell University. Other good alternatives may be Auburn, NY. Your family could rent a house on the lake, enjoy swimming, boat rentals nearby, summer theatre, Seward House, Harriet Tubman home for a rainy day, and/or a day trip to Ithaca for the Science Center for the younger children- adults love it too. I would opt to stay on or near Owasco Lake for lake activities. Skaneateles, NY is also 10 minutes from Auburn - great restaurants, shopping and fun boat trip on Skaneateles Lake. Go to Cayuga County.com and follow links for activities and rentals. Skaneateles is in Onondaga County- you may want to google that for links. Good luck and have fun in the Finger Lakes.

I think that is Cornell orientation week so Ithaca/Cayuga lake might be quite busy. Watkins Glen - Hammondsport - Penn Yan - Geneva are also great spots. Try http://fingerlakespremierproperties.com/ - very reputable and great properties!
