Finger Lakes Weekend
We are planning a weekend in the finger lakes in late October for our 25th wedding anniversary. Looking for suggestions on somewhere to stay, as well as a nice restaurant for dinner Saturday night. Somewhere romantic, but not crazy expensive. Also looking for input as to favorite wineries. We have been to this area before, but several years ago and we always camped. We'll be coming from the Allentown PA area and only have a weekend, so may not want to venture too far north, to keep drive time down
Thanks to all of you for your help. |
take a look at www.watkinsglenharborhotel.com its pretty new, on the water, perfect location for exploring, romantic, not a long drive and near some wineries...
seems like a perfect match...like you and your spouse... |
looks really nice. Thanks Gary. A little pricey though, plus a 2 night minimum for the weekend we're looking at. Keep the suggestions coming please!

This is the cheapest of the B & B's in the Canandaigua Lake area: http://www.bristolviews.com/
The ones in the city of Canandaigua at the north end of the lake are somewhat higher. |
We spent one night at the Glen Harbor Hotel and it is very nice! The only thing I did not like is that there was no coffee in the room, you had to go downstairs in the dining room where they had coffee set up. I did hate that cause I want coffee as soon as I wake up and I hated going downstairs in my jammies....but I did....:-)
But, let me tell you, on the other side of the lake is Belhurst Castle where we stayed two nights! Wonderful!!! Not the older part but the newer part called Vinifera Inn in a Reserve Room....It is huge! the Jacuzzi was great in a very large room with gas fireplace, very romantic...if you are interested be sure and ask for a full lakefront view...ours was just sideview, full view would be better: http://www.belhurst.com/ |
October is a very popular time for the wine trail, you may be hard pressed to find other than two night weekend minimum. Several years ago we stayed at Castel Grisch B & B for one night. They have a nice restaurant and winery with nice views.
http://www.themanorbandb.org/ http://castelgrisch.com/ Glenora winery has a nice restaurant and views. Never stayed, but their rooms look very nice (and probably expensive). www.glenora.com Bellhurst is a nice place, but at North end of the lake and not at a winery if that makes a difference. Watkins Glen Harbor Hotel looks very nice as well, some day in the off season when rates aren't so high. |
Bellhurst does not have a winery, but it does have a tasting room. :-) Here is a link that has a wine trail map of Seneca Lake: http://www.fingerlakeswinecountry.co...ine-trail.aspx

Hammondsport, NY on Keuka Lake is adorable little town with nice
B&B's and a few nice restaurants. Best part about this place is Bully Hill Winery 1 mile up the road. Fun winery with awesome restaurant. I highly recommend a visit. And here is why : http://www.squidoo.com/bully-hill-vineyards |
We recently stayed at the Country Inn and Suites in Ithaca, which is not what I would recommend for your special weekend. However, we noticed there were many bed and breakfasts advertised in the general area. Keep looking, you should be able to find something in your pricepoint. Two links to get you started.

Hello everyone - well I have spent the past couple of weeks trying to find something and I'm striking out. Everything that looks decent seems to be booked already -not sure why it is so crazy busy - we're looking at Oct 19 - 21st. Our budget maxes out around $200 per night. We thought we were pretty stuck on the Finger Lakes but we may have to rethink. I may repost to open this topic up more, but if any of you have suggestions we'll gladly take them.

This is Fall Peak Color Season... the best stuff is the most expensive and already booked... anything near a college will be tough on the weekends... homecomings and tons of Festivals for Harvest and Pumpkin hunters... good luck

We stayed at the Silver Strand B & B in Ovid on Lake Cayuga. It was very nice, not too expensive and the breakfast was great!
