In December it is quite possible to have snow in the finger lakes - once we had 24 inches over Thanksgiving weekend in Syracuse. Just be aware of that if you plan to go north...the Finger Lakes are beautiful, but I would go before Thanksgiving myself. There are several nice B&Bs up there - we liked the Sherwood Inn in Skaneateles, a small town in upstate NY.

Yes it can get cold & snowy!! But if you're ready for the weather it can be quite beautiful.
Here are some Finger Lakes spots I love. The Ben Conger Inn in Groton (btwn Ithaca & Syracuse) http://www.benncongerinn.com/ And in Ithaca La Tourelle Resort & Spa http://www.latourelle.com/ next door is the DELICIOUS John Thomas Steak House http://www.johnthomassteakhouse.net/ |
my friends and I just did a winery tour weekend here:
http://www.villaserendip.com/ where we had two nights, limo tour of 4-5 wineries, dinner one night and 2 breakfasts for $250pp. I would totally recommend it. |
We're from near Syracuse and have visited the finger lakes many times, but only in the summer. The snow can be substantial in December, so make sure to keep that in mind. If you decide to come, you should definitely try Mirbeau Inn and Spa...it's pricey but well worth it. Also, Watkins Glenn State Park near Ithaca is amazing, summer or winter.

you may want to consider Lake Placid. it has a lot of infrastructure from the Olympics... it will be about 4 to 5 hours from Philly.

We plan to go to Finger Lakes Labor Day weekend for a wedding in Penn Yan and will be there for four days. Any suggestions on day trips?
We like hiking, art shows, kayaking but are novices. Thanks. |
