Finger Lakes - Cute, Quaint Town?

I normally take a annual foliage trip somewhere in New England. I heard the Finger Lakes was a beautiful area to visit. I would assume the foliage is just as beautiful there? What would be some cute, quaint towns to stay in that have B&Bs or inns? Any assistance would be appreciated.

I don't know about towns/inns, but I went to school in the Finger Lakes and can tell you that the fall foliage is spectacular.

Skaneateles has many options for lodging, shopping and dining. It is a charming village on the north end of beautiful Skaneatles Lake.

I wholeheartedly second the suggestion for Skaneateles.

I really liked Hammondsport.

Great suggestions so far, if you like wine be sure to visit one of the wine trails in the area. Which ever town you choose make reservations early, there are not a ton of hotel rooms here and the nice ones do book fast for that time of year.

The Finger Lakes is beautiful - but definately book early. Sept and Oct are the busiest weekends of the year and it may be tough to get a B&B room already. Lot of wineries, neat shopping, fall foliage and good food. Post a message if you want specific suggestions. Watkins Glen, Penn Yan, Hammondsport, Skaneatles, Ithaca would all be good.

Located in Geneva on the shores of Seneca Lake in the heart of the Finger Lakes Wine Region, stay at the Belhurst Castle. http://www.belhurst.com/

You have been given excellent suggestions. Ithaca and Geneva, although beautiful, are not as quaint as Skaneateles IMHO. If you want quaint go with Skaneateles. If you want great access to the wineries Ithaca and Geneva are great locations. "Ithaca is Gorges" and Belhust Castle always pleases.

You will find great foliage in these areas and the iloveny.com website can tell you when to go for peak foliage in those areas.

My mom is from Watkins Glen, so I spent a good chunk of my life there visiting family. The lake area is really very beautiful. That idea, and the suggestions posted herein, are good.

Stayed in the region December 06 was beautiful, only problem was the falls/walkway at Watkins glen was closed that time of year beautiful waterfalls in the vicinity of Ithaca are Ithaca Falls (outskirts of downtown, Buttermilk falls and falls a Allan H. Treman state park (short drives from Ithaca and close to each other and Taughannock Falls 15 to 20 mins north ALL worth a look at. We stayed our first few nights in White springs Manor in Geneva highly recommend and another place near Ithaca see posts by me for these two. Wineries were a plus!

Sorry my reviews of the places we stayed are on trip advisor.

All great suggestions. Ithaca College & Cornell have some good look-out points to get pretty pics of the surrounding area. The plantations at Cornell are beautiful! John Thomas SteakHouse is closer to IC and amazing. La Tourelle in --- beautiful! Also, the Ben Conger Inn in nearby Groton.

Corning is a nice stop too - esp. if you like glass!!
