finger lakes accomodation
 

We will be driving from NYC to Buffalo for a wedding. We want to spend two nights in the Finger Lakes. We will be having our 19-year-old daughter with us. We live near Napa in California, so we aren't particularly interested in wine tasting. Any suggestions on nice places to stay with interesting sights and good food in the vicinity?

We have not stayed in hotels in the area as we had a weekend place at Keuka Lake. Some that I know are very nice are Inn at Esperanza, Bellhurst, Canandaigua Inn on the Lake, Mirbeau Spa.

Check out Skaneateles, just a bit south & west of Syracuse. It's a charming village on a beautiful lake with quaint shops and nice variety of restaurants.

Played golf there once, seemed nice, secluded, not far from Canandaigua (village).

I also suggest Skaneateles. Charming town with nice shopping and restaurants. Very pretty lake!

You might also consider Ithaca, which is the biggest town in the Finger Lakes with the largest choice of restaurants and accomodations. Do a search of Ithaca and I'm sure you'll find some suggestions for the Ithaca area.

If you choose to use one of the many bed and breakfasts that are around the lakes I strongly advise you to avoid "Gone With The Wind" if it is still in business. Not that the facility is bad - it is fine. It is the manner in which it is operated that makes it unacceptable. Avoid it.

One of the loveliest properties I saw there was Geneva on the Lake. But then I see you're with your daughter, so that wouldn't be a great option I guess. We liked Glenora at Seneca Lake a lot. However, we were winery hopping and that would be a major disappointment for CA people. Sorry, NY, you have some nice wines but you're not there yet.

I've never been to California for wine tasting but I have thoroughly enjoyed the Fingerlakes for wine tasting. It is what it is. It's not California - it's NY. It never will be "there". The OP isn't interested in wine tasting anyway which is probably why so many of us are suggesting Skaneateles.

Sounds like Skaneateles might be a good option. Hotel suggestions? Skaneateles Suites get good reviews on Trip Advisor, although the photos don't look all that exciting.

I actually drove by Skan. Suites today -- really close to the road, and looked pretty small.

Mirbeau has always gotten great reviews. I've heard great things about Ezperanza and Bellhurst too. Since I live in the area, I've never stayed anywhere, sorry!

Skaneateles is a Norman Rockwell type of town -- very charming. However, I couldn't see spending 2 days there. Ithaca has lots more to do with great food, I would stay there.
