finding my marbles in sanibel/captiva
We're headed there with a million other people next week. My son collects handmade marbles when we travel and I know we'll be on the hunt while we are there. Could someone recommend a shop or two on Sanibel or Captiva that carries marbles?
Thanks. |
LOL, and here I thought you had Lost your Marbles and were looking forward to finding them in the peace and quiet of Sanibel :D
There are so many shops and it has been a while since we were there, but I bet there will be a place for your son to find his marbles.. Good luck :) |
Forget Sanibel and come to Naples. Everybody here has lost their marbles. You'll be in good company.
Seriously, I don't know of any Sanibel shops that specialize in marbles, but there are a dozen or more shell shops. I'd think if you're going to find you marbles, one of those would be the right place. |
There is a toy store in Periwinkle Place shopping center, you could try there.
|
Thanks for helping me find my marbles. Usually we find them in art galleries. I'll check the places you've all recommended. ;-)
|
I wouldn't have thought of that.
There are several galleries, and finer gift shops. Ask around, they might be able to point you in the right direction. Good Luck. |
I too thought you lost your marbles, and found them in Sanibel/captiva... i would like to find a place that DOES THAT!
LOL. |
Ah Ha!
False advertising! They're not your marbles at all - they're your son's marbles! :-) What a wonderful thing to collect - Personally I collect business cards from restaurants, we have 3 clip frames full of cards from restaurants from all over the world. Collecting anything while you travel is a wonderful way to remember the places you have visited - I hope you have a wonderful time. |
There is a store above Jerry's supermarket that has all kinds of unique/fun things like shells and other collectibles. I don't remember the name of it but you'll know it as soon as you see it! It's worth a stop, even if they don't have handmade marbles.
Perhaps contacting the Sanibel Chamber of Commerce before your trip might turn up something. Have fun. Sanibel is fantastic...I'm jealous!!!!! |
Glad you enjoyed my little play on words. Yes, the marbles are a great collector item. They travel well, and they can be just beautiful. Sure beats some of the other garbage the kids are inclined to purchase! I'll check out all your tips, and let you know.
Thanks. |
And a nice thing about marbles -- they don't require battery replacement.
|
UPDATE: We not only found our marble, but my son was able to make it himself. Sanibel Island Glassblowers, in Tahitian Place, has a deal where you can book a time to make your own marble. Jason, the owner, was great with my son and now my son has a real souvenier of his trip, and a true appreciation of what goes into making a marble.
Hooray! |
I'm glad to hear that both you and your son have found your marbles on Sanibel. I usually get mine back into shape there also!
That sounds like a great thing to do - wished I had known that many years ago when we first took our son to Sanibel. Could you please take a minute to tell us how Sanibel and Captiva (if you went there) are doing since the hurricanes? LilMissFoodie posted some info today about Captiva. I was wondering about Song of the Sea on Sanibel. Thanks and hooray for your son! |
