finding hotel in chicago near union station, help

would like to stay near union station. Not too far from the train for the couple of days that I have to take it.

I found these so far, but I'm open to any suggestions.

The Silversmith Hotel $96 per night
Hotel Blake $102
Club Quarters Central Loop $111
Hotel 71 $119

Try quikbook.com. It maps lots of hotels in Chicago and other cities. You can also check hotel web sites, rates, etc. We use it every year and always beat the hotel's online prices.

The Hotel Blake would be a bit farther than the others. Without knowing what dates you're looking for, it's impossible to say if you're going to find anything less expensive as rates are highly subject to demand. So if there's a large convention in town when you'll be here, you probably won't find a better price.

In addition to the hotels you have listed, the other loop hotels are The Palmer House, Hotel Monaco and the Burnham. Additionally, the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza is just NW of the loop but still close to US.

They're all around 3/4 mile from Union Station. If the weather is bad, you can catch the Number 151 bus or a cab. Check www.transitchicago.com for bus maps and info.

If you want to get out in the evenings to restaurants or nightlife, you'd do better to stay near Michigan Avenue. The loop hotels are fine, but are surrounded mostly by offices, banks and courts so there's not lots of activity at night. You could still get to the train station quickly by bus or cab.

While I am not quite sure how far The Silversmith Hotel is from Union Station, I would recommend it. My brother and I stayed there a couple of years ago and it was very conveniently located. We had flown into O'Hare and taken the Blue line into Chicago proper. There are about 5 different El lines right outside the door of the Hotel, with a subway and busses nearby.

The Silversmith is about a mile east of Union Station. From the staion, turn right on Adams and head eight blocks to Wabash. Turn left and the hotel is about 4 doors up on the left side.

While the Silversmith has a great location adjacent to several L lines, you can't take the L to Union Station without walking several blocks. The hotel is well soundproofed but if you think the train noise will be a problem, you may want to consider one of your other options.

In addition to the Number 151 bus, you can take the Number 126 bus which runs eastbound on Jackson, one block south of Adams, and west on Adams.

Actually, I think Hotel 71 is the farthest, at just over a mile. Ckub Quarters is definitely the closest, but the rooms are said to be small.Hotel Blake is in the Printers Row neighborhood, about 6 or 7 blocks from the station, which is probably as lively as it gets for that area of the downtown. Any of the hotels are good choices, but Citylights is right in that most tourists like being near the Michigan Avenue area best.

Oops, the Silversmith is 1.5 blocks north of Adams, not a half block.
