Finding A Stop Along The Blueridge Parkway

We are looking to driving the Blueridge Parkway the last week of October. We will be staying in Charlottesville the first night and Blowing Rock the third night. We were looking for someplace to stop the second night. We were looking at the Peaks of Otter Lodge, but that would leave us with approximately 210 miles to travel on the third day. Wouldn't that be a lot of travel distance to cover at that time of year? Any suggestions for other places that we could stop?

How about Mt. Airy, NC?

I looked at Mt. Airy, but that would mean that we would have to travel 200+ miles the first day. Asheville is ghoing to be our stop the fourth night. How about Roanoke? I know that we probably won't find the scenery that we would at the Peaks of Otter Lodge, but it would take us about another 25 miles the first day.

Roanoke is a great place to stop. It has an interesting downtown and a lovely old railroad hotel. Have fun there.
