Field Museum Question
Hi, Fodorites! We'll be visiting the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago on thursday July 3. We'd like to arrive there between 09:00 A.M. and 10:00 A.M. What would be easier, taking the CTA or driving? We'll be staying at the Springhill Suites near O'Hare. Thanks!

I would take public transit. Driving in Chicago in the morning on a weekday is pretty dreadful, and then there's parking, etc.

I agree and you have a couple options.
You can take the Blue Line to Clark/Lake. From there, go upstairs and catch the Orange Line to Roosevelt. When you exit the station, turn left and you'll see the museum. Option two is to take the Blue Line to either Monroe or Jackson. Walk one block east to State Street and take the Number 146 bus (Inner Drive Express) southbound. It will drop you near the southeast corner of the Field Museum. |
There was a great free "Highlights" tour at about 10:30am when I last visited the museum. I thought it was really a great way to get an overview of the museum. I really enjoyed it.

Be prepared for total insanity. The Taste of Chicago is on, the the fireworks are that night. Many people stake out spots on the harbor side of the museum to view the fireworks.
Do not even consider driving. You will greatly regret it. |
Thanks, everybody! I really appreciate your input.
