Ferry to Vancouver Island

Last time we went to Vancouver Island, we took the ferry from Anacortes to Syndey. I guess it's my mind getting older, but I can't remember what the problems are with the ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria or vice versa. Are you unable to make reservations for a car on this route? I know several years ago we had to put our car in line the night before in Victoria.

We took the trip last month. We had no problems except timing and wondering whether we'd get on. Get there early in both directions.

Reservations can be made but there is a charge to do so.

We made the crossing 7-8 weeks ago, no problems whatever AND we had to drive on the wrong side of the road!!!

You can and certainly should book in advance though, for peace of mind. The extra charge is only about $10. Go to www.cohoferry.com.

The reservation system is fairly new, so that might be why you are thinking of putting the car in line the night before. The reservation system now is great, and for the $15 fee it is really nice to not have to wait so long. You will need to be at the PA ferry terminal 60 minutes before sailing (if not you lose your reservation...even by a few minutes), and returning from Victoria you need to arrive 90 minutes before sailing.

This would be during August, and we may have a group of 3 or 4 cars, so would that make a difference?

Neil Oz- Why did you have to drive on the wrong side of the road?
They drive on the same side of the road as the US

When I take the ferry over I take it from the Canadian side at Tswassan -
You can take cars on the ferry and I like to take it from there as there are
more departures and because its a prettier ride.
You can make reservations for your car.

I believe Neil meant it was the wrong side of the road for him---he's Australian.

clousie, if you are going in August and have 3 or 4 cars, reservations would definitely be a good idea for the Coho.
