ferry to lanai

Has anybody recently been to lanai by ferry. Did you say for the day or overnite. I was thinking about spending 1 or 2 nights as we have a day or 2 between maui and kauai. Been to big island and oahu thought for something different.

Just back from there a couple weeks ago. It's a really beautiful island. Not a lot to do, but that's part of the charm. Only 3 hotels that I know of and not cheap. You can camp out there too.

The small ferry is a lovely ride between the islands. You'll have great views.

My personal favorite on Lanai is the Lodge at Koehle. It isn't beach, and is up at about 1,400 ft elevation, so it is much cooler and mountain chalet-like.

I can relate to not too much to do,but the beach is only a short walk, and if you snorkle bring your stuff, and maybe a boogie board.I tis a cheaper version of a trip that will set you back over 150 a person.

We've stayed at all 3 of the hotels on the island at different times.. Manele Bay is located on a beautiful white sandy beachfront. The Lodge at Koele (also our favorite) is located near the main town and is more like a mountain resort. Both are managed under the Four Seasons resorts. Hotel Lanai is the original hotel on the island. It is affordable, charming, more rustic and like a flash back in time.

You won't need to rent a car as there are resort buses that run between all hotels. Exploring Lanai City is done on foot and within walking distance from Hotel Lanai.

We went there for 2 weeks in 2007. The island is full of charm - away from any type of commercialism. If you need to relax this is your place. The beaches on the island are wonderful. If you end up on the northwest side of the island you can have a prestine couple of miles of beach for yourself. Quite a feeling you won't get anywhere else. Great place to relax and get away from it all. The Four Seasons resorts are wonderfully kept and the service is always number 1.
