ferry on Lake Michigan
I want to visit both Madison WI and Ann Arbor MI. Is there a ferry that crosses the Lake or must I drive south around Chicago from WI to MI?
Thanks, Amie |
There is a ferry, but I'm not sure why you'd choose it. First, you'd have to drive more than 2 hours from Madison to Manitowoc, where the ferry leaves from. Then spend 4 hours to cover the 60 miles across Lake Michigan to Ludington. From there it's about 3.5 hours to Ann Arbor.
The drive from Madison to Ann Arbor is about 6 hours unless you hit traffic snags. |
OK, I'll add to that now that I've done a quick search. There is a new ferry that goes from Milwaukee to Muskegon that is faster, but it's very expensive. I only see round-trip pricing info online, but it's $85 standard class per adult, plus $118 for the car.

I've seen the ferry in Ludington, and I would think it would be a fun way to get from WI to MI. The ferry is very large and holds alot of cars. I think you have to have a car reservation, so you might check and do a google search for the ferry company.
Go for it, it looks like fun to me. |
Also an interesting local "attraction" that is worth a day trip is "The House On The Rock". I'll bet there is a website for it these days as well.
Have a fun time. |
