Ferry near Williamsburg, Va.

I'm trying to find info on ferry that crosses the James River near Williamsburg. I have been to the Virginia Tourism and DOT web sites but cannot find, or have overlooked, any information on the boat.

Can anyone here help? Just need to know the facts like how often does it run and how long is the trip.

Thanks

I'm not sure if it's the one you want, but there is a ferry next to where the Jamestown settlement is on the James River. It is a car ferry that takes you over to Scotland (the town) and takes about 20 minutes to get across.

Funny, really, but I took it rather by accident! I don't know how often it runs, however, but I think it was fairly often. This was in May 2000.

Emmy, I know the ferry you mean, but cannot recall details. I'm headed to Williamsburg tomorrow night, so I have a concierge at the Marriott - his name is Keith, and he seems very knowledgeable, if you wish to call him: 757-220-2500. Good luck, and ciao.

The ferry runs from the end of Jamestown Rd. over to Surry. Over there you can visit Chippokes State Park, Bacon's Castle, and eat at the Surry House Restaurant. Good Southern cooking, just don't order the peanut soup. Colonial Williamsburg's is much better. We took the ferry once, then proceeded north along the river, crossed the bridge and then came down Rt 5 past the plantations.

It's been years since I took it, but you're talking about the ferry that runs from Jamestown to Jamestown Island, across the river. I don't remember it being a long trip - maybe 15 minutes or so.
Sorry I can't tell you how to get more details - see if there is a website for Jamestown, and if there is, look for info on Jamestown Island.

The ferry is not related to Jamestown except that it runs past it on its way from Jamestown Rd. over the James River to Surry.
