ferry from Hyannisport to Nantucket
Do we HAVE TO make reservations or what are our chances of getting on the early ferry during the week in August?

Car, never. passenger quite likely fine without reservations
|
Lou is right. You will never get ressies for the car, but you don't need them for yourselves.
|
Reservation probably required if you are planning on the Grey Lady High Speed during peak hours. (Takes one hour instead of two+)

When you get off the ferry, what is there to do close-by? Would you have to take more transportation to get to anything fun?
|
Along the same vein, is there a ferry from the Cape, Yarmouth area or Hyannis to Newport?

Vanetta:

The ferry drops you in Nantucketown, which is the commercial center of the island. It is also within walking distance of a few of the more popular beaches. There are enough things to do to keep you occupied for several days.

Martha
