Fell's Point/Inner Harbor

My husband and I are planning a weekend getaway and are considering Fell's Point or Baltimore. We love to walk and like good, fresh food and nice accommodtions. ANy suggestions?

Yes, check out The Admiral Inn. It's a B&B type hotel in the center of Fells Point. Web address is: www.admiralfell.com I live in Balto. so haven't stayed there, but it really looks nice. Central to everything.

Thanks zztopz. As a Ballamer resident, do you have suggestions for what an un-touristy tourist might want to do or see?

A day trip to annapolis is excellent. . .it's a great little town to walk around in.

Also, in Baltimore, don't miss the crabs at obrycki's (sp)

If you stay in Fells Point, don't forget to eat Bertha's mussels. ((b))

priceline your hotel...Baltimore is the best city in the world for priceline as there are only 3 4* hotels, they are all on the inner harbor and all are very nice. There are no other 4* hotels anywhere in Balto so you have like 10 rebidding zones. If you are unfamiliar with priceline I can explain further, but I have gotten the Renessaince (sp?), and Marriott Waterfront for under $100 a night multiple times.

Thanks for the feedback! I like the Priceline idea....

We are also looking at a few places in Fell's Point--anyone ever stay at Celie's Waterfront Inn or Henderson's Wharf (or know someone who has)?

If you choose to stay in Fell's Point consider staying at The Inn at Henderson's Wharf. It is a marvelous upscale hotel, great ambiance, that is right on the water with views across the harbor. It once was a tobacco warehouse. I believe that rates start at under $200, and I would prefer it to any of the Inner Harbor hotels. Fell's Point is really not that big, so walking around is easy. BTW, Fell's Point is part of Baltimore and is connected to the Inner Harbor attractions by water taxi so it is not an either/or thing. Little Italy is nearby with lots of restaurants. Vaccaro's (sp) is an Italian dessert restaurant that shouldn't be missed. The Inner Harbor and nearby areas have lots of good restaurants too. Legal Seafoods is known for the quality of its fish. I also very much like Tio Pepe, an upscale Spanish restaurant near the Peabody Institute, but some find the place noisy with tables too close together.

Also about a 10 minute drive south of balto are the best crab cakes ever...G&M Seafood (gandmcrabcakes.com I believe is their site) is on the Nursery Rd. Exit off I-295. I recommend getting the two crab cake dinner as you will not be able to finish more than 1 and then you have an extra for later.

basingstoke, thanks for the input on Henderson's. I looked at their webpage and it looks like the type of place I am looking for...but I have lernind not to put too much credence in web sites! Thanks for the info on water taxis!

Just buy an all day water taxi pass and you are good to go. They pretty much connect everything around the inner harbor.

Charleston's for 4 star dining. Look them up on the 'net.

carolyna May 2nd, 2007 10:53 AM

Wow! I'm getting excited about going! Thanks for all the feedback.

There's another good restaurant in the Canton area called Mama's on the Half Shell. It's a locals place and great oysters.

If you are in the mood for Italian, Amicci's in Little Italy has great food at a reasonable price. ((b))

I should have mentioned: If you are going to be there between May 11 and June 10, catch the show at the Fell's Point Corner Theater. It's a semi pro group and the best deal you will find for $20. Fell's point also has organized walking tours. Check out www.preservationsociety.com for details.

Carolyna - I checked trip advisor regarding The Inn at Henderson's Wharf to see if others hold it in the same high regard that I do. I was pleased to see that with 76 reviews, it has a TA rating of a full 5. That is as good as it gets. Comments were consistently positive.

Have a great time and make sure you don't miss Vaccaro's Italian Pastry Shop for dessert. Sonetimes we will go there and just have a dinner of desserts. Not only great cannoli and pastry, but homemade gelato and other wonderful ice cream specialties. They have a location in the food building at Harbor Place, but the location in Little Italy is best.

basingstoke2 May 4th, 2007 08:35 PM

Forgot to mention, you can access the Vaccaro's menu online www.vaccarospastry.com/menu.jsp to see what I mean.
Disclaimer: I don't work there nor do they pay me. Just want to share some of B'more's best.
