February trip to Napa Valley
My husband and I are planning a trip to the Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley wine regions the second week in February. We're not familiar with the weather that time of year, though - any idea of what to expect? Rain, or just cloudy? Could we do a bike tour or would it be better to drive to the vineyards?
Also, any suggestions on where to stay would be great. Thanks! |
It's hard to say these days--we are in the middle of a HUGE storm and there are lots of flooded roads in the valley. Then again, you could run into a sunny weekend. Best to be prepared, rent a car.

I agree with TrvlMaven, the weather could be sunny or downright miserable. I go to an outdoor event in Napa at the end of January every year and have been lucky to hit sunny, crisp days over the last few years. My vote would be for driving, just in case.

The weather is unpredictable in February. The last three years have been mostly dry but every year is different.
One word of caution: avoid President's Weekend. This is when Bay Area residents take to the roads and go wine tasting. The wineries are jammed then. I've never thought that wine tasting and bicycling mixed very well. The roads are dangerous enough when you have all your wits about you. |
It's usually pretty chilly in Napa Valley in February - cars parked outside will often be covered in ice in the early morning. Rain here is unpredictable. Wait until you arrive to decide about a bike tour.
What type of lodging are you looking for? What price range? We have lots of suggestions, but it depends on what you prefer. |
Drink some wine and don't worry about the weather. It's always nice.

I am also going in February 11-16th, I guess I'm smack dab in the middle of Presidents week? or is it considered the week after? Is that the real Robert Mondavi? - poster above? I am in "awe" if it is.
