Favs in La Jolla ?

I would like to get some ideas of peoples favorite restaurants and places to go in LaJolla. Best seafood, ice cream, mexican food? Best places to take a walk.

George's Ocean View Terrace [aka at the Cove] = had my birthday lunch there in May. Lovely!

I had fish tacos "marinated and grilled fresh fish tacosmango salsa, jalapeno-lime creme fraiche, guacamole and shredded cabbage" and DH had blackened fish sandwich [w/albacore]"blackened seasonal fish sandwich
avocado, lettuce, onions, tomato,
cucumber-yogurt relish".

Excellent desserts - chocolate thingy for him and lemon thingy for me.

Yes, George's on the Cove. Get there for sunset, and arrange to get an outside table at the glass corner. The view is amazing. So is the food and service.

Best restaurant: George's on the Cove.

Best Mexican restaurant: Alfonso's.

After posting about the fish tacos, I decided I just had to have some, so I am trying to replicate them at home! We'll see if they come anywhere near close. Fish is tricky here in SW, but all the rest of the fixin are easy to come by!

Crab Catcher is another pleasant destination. Patio has a fine view of the cove. Crab Catcher is a small chain. The food is good and reasonably priced.

You didn't ask about breakfast, but if interested, I like The Cottage. Casual and crowded with locals. Great food.

Crab Catcher has some great clam chowder, we love George's California Modern for fine dining. For a nice walk, check out the paths that run along the La Jolla Cove, there is a pretty little coved beach here, also. Enjoy your time in La Jolla! ***kim*** ((#))

Just received an e-mail from George's this week:

"Come see why three courses for $40 at California Modern is the best Restaurant Week offer in town.

Just because it's Restaurant Week doesn't mean you shouldn't get to experience all the flavors of California Modern cooking. That's why our Restaurant Week menu includes a larger choice of menu items. For example, instead of choosing from three appetizer options, you get to choose from seven. And if you're craving a dish that's not included in those options, you can still order it for a few bucks more. It's pretty simple, really. You get to have a great time at a great value. We get to prepare the dishes on our menu as we would any other night of the year, without sacrificing quality. How's that for a winning combination."

This offer is extended through September 25, in case you're there this month. Bon appetit!
