Favourite San Francisco hotel / New things to see??

We will be arriving in San Francisco on the 1st of July flying in from Australia.
What are your recommendations for a modern, clean, well located hotel?
It will just be my husband and I and we plan to stay for 3 or 4 nights as we have been to San Fran before. ( In the past we have stayed at Handlery Union Square and Villa Florrence )
We realise it will be quite expensive during this time being so close to 4th of July.
We do like club lounges that have a nice view and good service.
Price can be up to approx. $300 per night give or take. ( We may need to go a little higher I am thinking )
Any suggestions for new sights to see would also be appreciated.

Have you visited the Filbert Steps? (Google for photos of the gardens and film on wild parrots.)

I'm not sure the cheapest "club" room at the Hyatt Embarcadero is within your budget but the Regency Club has fairly decent views and fairly decent service. The issue may be what you say you want for the price you are willing to pay.

take a few donation only tours, a $5 -10 pp donation is most welcomed. Donations go to keep the program running. We have done over 30 of them; lots of different areas of interest.

I did the Fairmont and Palace Hotels City Guide tours. Excellent.

There is no longer a tour of the Palace Hotel offered by City Guides. Long story. My wife has been a City Guide volunteer for 15 years.

SFMOMA is remodeled, see if there are any exhibits that may interest you.

Other than that... probably not much is new.

Last weekend of June is a huge parade in the city, so July 1 is a good date to fly in - most of the participants will fly home by then.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions about what to see and possible hotels. I will check them out and see what the prices are.
Stu Dudley I will have a look at your link.
Thanks again

Here is something very new - it opens tomorrow.

It is in the same area as the Disney museum.

And much more "neat stuff" to see & do in the Presidio - Crissy Park, and Fort Point.

Combine a visit to this Visitor Center & other things in or near the park, with a City Guides walking tour of the fabulous Presidio.

Spend a day at the Presidio, Crissy Field, and Fort Point instead of Fisherman's Wharf.

Walt Disney Family Museum was fantastic! Informative and fun. Here's our morning there with photos.

We also enjoyed the Misión San Francisco de Asís.

We had a nice brunch within walking distance of the museum at Aguello.
