Favorite Weekend Destination

Looking for some help here. Our anniversary is coming up in June and I want to take my wife away for a three or four day weekend somewhere in continental US.

What's your favorite short trip destination (area or city) and what makes it your favorite.

Charleston, South Carolina is a beautiful romantic city, and would definatly be high on my list.

When we were looking for a place for our anniversary, the short list was:

San Francisco, New Orleans, Naples or Charleston.

We chose Naples and I was not disappointed, but in June, I don;t know if it would be too hot.

In June, I would also consider the Outer Banks in North Carolina, or even Cape Cod.

Are you looking for the name of an actual resort or inn suggestion, or a destination?

New York!!! June is a beautiful month in the city.

What makes it my favorite? Well, I live here, but also the culture, restaurants, nightlife, museums, shopping, Broadway, Central Park, etc etc. I could on for many paragraphs.

Also don't overlook that one intangible that is uniquely New York -- the energy, the pure adrenaline of the Greatest City in the World!!

I Love NY!

Cape Cod - a long Romantic weekend at Chatham Bars Inn. and fell like you are reliving the elegeance of first class travel on an ocean going liner in the 1920's

It's not the US, but what about Quebec City? It's totally different from anywhere else in the US or Canada, and it's beautiful in the summer.

WHen my husband and I relocated to the east and drove across country, two of our favorite stops were Santa Fe and New Orleans. Great food and sights in both cities...depends what you're looking to do. We enjoyed wandering and exploring both!

SusanInToronto - Love Quebec City. We are spending 3 days there in August. Thanx for the thought.

All - you have posted some terrific ideas. Only problem is now I have to choose. :) Thanx

Since we have relatively young children my husband and I usually only take long weekends together (without the kids). Some of the places we have gone and loved were:

New Orleans - the food, the late hours, the lovely buildings, so different from our usual lifestyle.

Las Vegas - again the lifestyle is so different from home. We get to be irresponsible party animals (well sort of anyway).

Boston (at least 6 times but we live nearby so its a cost effective getway for us). Love to see the museums, the North End, Charles Street etc..

Coast of Maine (York Harbor, Portland) - Love staying on the water and hearing the waves crash on the rocks.

Stowe Vt. (Trapp Family Lodge)- the mountains are beautiful, trails to hike etc.

Manchester VT. (Equinox Inn) - the golf, the outlets.

New York - its self explanatory.

If Chicago is a possibility, and you happen to like the blues, you might try to be there sometime during their blues festival which starts on Thursday; June 10 and ends Sunday the 13th. It is downtown in Grant Park. There is no admission fee but it will cost you to park and to eat!

Where would you be leaving from? We love both Northern and Southern California, but would never consider either for a short trip because we live in Florida.
