Favorite vegetarian options in Italy

I'm travelling to Italy in September and was wondering if anyone has ideas on some vegetarian dishes I should watch for in restaurants. I'd like to broaden out to local dishes from my normal bread and cheese menu.

Hi ciciconger, you will get better responses if you post this on the Europe Board.

Since the pasta course and the meat course are separate in Italy, you'll see lots of wonderful vegetarian pastas on menus. I would learn how to say "I'm vegetarian" in Italian, and ask your waiter for a suggestion. He can point you to what the region and the restaurant does best, and what is fresh and seasonal.

Hi--I have a long time vegetarian in my family and altho he is a fussy eater, he was never limited to "bread and cheese". By any chance are you possibly saying that you don't like a lot of things? If so, maybe you should advise us of your limitations. I am still having a hard time imagining what type of restaurants you have been to where bread and cheese were your only options...
