Favorite So. Cali beach to visit?

We will be staying in LaJolla but really want to go around the area and see some other beaches as well. What are your favorites in the San Diego area or within an hour or so of LaJolla??
And why?

(Going Thanksgiving week with my parents.)

- Coronado in front of Hotel Del- very wide, white sandy beach with a lovely background and not too crowded, at least in the oncoming two months

- Beach at Del Mar- not too crowded either, some nice rocks that provide shelter

Both are located in absolutely lovely beach communities

Enjoy

Blacks/Torrey Pines one of the nicest beaches in

You should be aware that Blacks/Torrey Pines is a clothing optional beach.

It is, however, a great beach.

lol no thanks, did you miss the part where I said I'm going with my parents???

That would be too funny though.

Black's Beach is clothing optional, Torrey Pines State Beach is not.

We went to California last year and went to the beach in front of Hotel del Coronado. It was very nice. However, our favorite beach was actually in Malibu. Can't remember the name. We were getting sandwiches at the deli and I was talking to one of the locals who recommended it to me. It was not crowded and very nice.

If you can make it up to Laguna Bch, it would be worth it. Beautiful beach, and an artsy town with lots of art galleries, shops and restaurants.

definitly take a drive up to laguna beach. if you want a quiet beach, head south of hotel del about 10 minutes and lay out on the "strand".

we just returned from so california and visited nearly every beach in our 10-day visit. Our favorite for SWIMMING was huntington beach, decent size waves and plenty of room! However, our favorite for its BEAUTY was a little gem just south of Laguna (highly overrated INHO) called Aliso State Beach. Absolutely beautiful. While we were there, we imagined this is what the south of France must resemble.
