Favorite seafood restaurants of south jersey shore?

Looking for good seafood restaurants down the jersey shore. Any suggestions for favorites? Good experiences?
Thanks for your help.

Your not going to do much better than Doris and Ed's in the Highlands. My wife and I are regulars here. Make sure you download the menu.

Where on the shore? It's something like 80 miles from Keansburg to Cape May. There's a lot of seafood in between. I'm personally partial to the Wharfside in Point Pleasant.

I'll give you three great restaurants at the Jersey Shore:

1. Dock's Oyster House in Atlantic City (on Atlantic Avenue near Trump Plaza).

2. The Crab Trap in Somers Point (just across the bridge from Ocean City).

3.The Lobster House in Cape May ( at the end of the Parkway on your left as you approach Cape May).

They are all on MyJerseyShore.com with links to their Web sites.

I wouldn't call the Lobster House "great". It's OK. The main thought I have about it is that it's very old-fashioned.

Allen's Clam Bar Rte. 9 New Gretna, NJ is a real old-fashioned place with great seafood.

Liz,

After doing some research, the Lobster House does get mixed reviews.

Most of the complaints are about the service and not the food.

I'll try it this summer and let you know what I find out.

For informal diners, the Lobster House has 2 great, non-traditional options. They have an enclosed, counter with great food, very fast service and greatly reduced prices. They also have take-out service that you can eat on the working docks. Not very customer-friendly but very unique and enjoyable. To me the traditional restaurant is B-/C+ at best!

another vote for lobster house. it's not fancy dining but great.

I have no problem with calling places "great", but few places are great to everyone, so it's helpful to say why, as in:

(Blank) is great, if you're looking for (fill in the blank).

So I would say The Lobster House is great, if you're looking for a old-fashioned big, bustling restaurant that serves huge platters of fried or broiled seafood, served by waitresses wearing "sailor" dresses.

If we had heard more than "it's great", we would have known it wasn't our kind of place. We certainly didn't hate it, though.

My favorite by far is just sitting on the deck of the Captain's Inn in Forked River. The food is good, inexpensive, good boat watching, and they play really good live music. We have two little kids, if they make a mess and/or are rowdy, they are drowned out by the music and atmosphere. Looking forward to going back this weekend!
