Favorite SanFran/Napa/Carmel Lodging for less than $200
Hi....just wondering what some of your favorite "less than $200 a night" hotel/motels are in the SanFran, Napa/Sonoma, Carmel, and areas in between. We were going to rent a place for a week, but thought we'd rather travel a bit and stay a couple nights near the coast, a couple in Napa, and then maybe a couple either in Carmel or downtown SF. Thx for your thoughts!

Railway Inn in Yountville.
Funky old rail cars turned into a motel right across the street from some goood restaurants.

For SF we've had very good success using Priceline/Hotwire getting 4 star hotels for well under $200.

Both of my suggestions are borderline price range depending on when you stay but I love them both. In Yountville, the Maison Fleurie is a lovely, quaint B 'n B that includes terrific breakfasts and evening appetizers. I always feel like I am in the French country side when I stay here (and you can walk to some fabulous restaurants!) In San Francisco, just off Union Square is the Chancellor Hotel. It is a tiny, clean place that is wonderfully handy when you have conferences. The Chancellor Hotel always has a bowl of apples in the lobby and coffee with fresh baked cookies in the morning! (Hmmm, I see a theme with my favorite places, lol!) I usually get a great price and I love being just off Union Square. However, the rooms aren't large and some are pretty small. Both have websites if you want to check these out.

Thanks for your recommendations....I'm thinking that I could possibly "up" my price by about $50 or so.....don't know if that makes too much of a difference.....?? Thanks again.....I'm cutting and pasting!

Personally I like to suggest a vacation rental in the Sonoma county..>Healdsburg area. That way you have more than just one room, plus you get some sort of kitchen facilities and often your own private hot tub or pool. Many are a lot more than $200 a night, but you will have a big choice of places under or around $200. too. Check out www.sonomacountyvacations.com .. that being said, there are also lots of B&B's in the area. You can still base your stay in one area and see both Napa and Sonoma counties. Each one is about 1.5 hrs North of San Francisco.

We've also stayed here in Y'ville:
http://bordeauxhouse.com/
A bit more $$$ than The Railway but the French Laundry is about a 20 second walk away...Napa Valley Grille, 5 min walk.....Alos inculdes b'fast and "night caps".
Ms. Jean is a lovely lady too.
If you stay at The Railway, Hurley's, Bouchon's, Bouchon's Bakery are right across the street...Pacific Blues Cafe next door.
Bistro Jeanty, Redd and Ad Hoc about a 5 min walk if you "meander".
If you're hungry, you can make it in 2!

to kleroux and Kal....thanks so much! Kleroux, as you mentioned, the sonomavalley website looked great, but yes, probably over my budget. Kal, I'm definitely keeping the bordeaux house in mind...more to our budget, and looked great! (and hot tubs are always a PLUS in my book!) Keep those suggestions coming 'cus I'm following up on all of them! Thanks again!

on the web page I mentioned, I think you have to go to the end of the list to get the cheapest price for a vacation rental. I think they are listed by size and price with the most expensive and largest being listed first. But I know there are several under $200. a night.
