Favorite Posters on U. S. Forum?
They're having fun on the Europe Forum choosing their favorite posters. How about it on the U.S. Board?

I have to say Annemarie always gives good info, also Kalena (sp) from Hawaii.
|
Sorry...I can't stop laughing. Obviously you don't slum here at the US forum very often or you'd know that it was full of rude posters that detest each other.
|
Wonderer, it's obvious that you still have all the emotional maturity of a high school sophomore, one who wants to conduct popularity contests to enhance self-esteem. Grow the hell up, will ya?
|
The last time this thread ran many top notch contributors stopped posting. Why bother if no one acknowledges. Ever notice that no one requesting marriage proposal ideas ever reports back?
|
The situation is so bad on this post, you are afraid to use your own name. Of course, you don't want to use your own e-mail, but that's another story! You can't make a post without someone correcting your grammer, or some other insignificant part of your post. And, of course, there's always some snob infering you're too much of a country bumbkin to know anything about high class travel.
|
Just for the record, the question as posted on the European side of Travel Talk drew some very good answers.
Over here, it just drew verbal assaults.
Perhaps that is why the informed posters keep out of this one.
Perhaps the surliness of the responses says reams about the caliber of this side of the picture.
|
Hey teri, it's correcting your 'grammar'.
(Sorry, couldn't resist).
One thing you have to learn about reading the US forum is that people are often critical and nasty, but there are plenty of well meaning people too.
It's an anonymous forum, so it promotes that kind of behavior.
Just ignore the critical people and enjoy what's good about this board. The Euro forum is 100% different than this one...people tend to be older, funnier, wittier, more easygoing and almost never critical of one another. But that goes with the territory. people who like to travel to Europe are on average older and better socialized than people who only go to Vegas and Six Flags.
Oh well.
Don't let it get you down.
|
OK, I'll actually answer the question, and name some of the same people I named when I answered the question on the Europe forum.

Dan Woodlief
Ilisa & Cindy (esp. for Wash. DC)
Howard & Patrick (esp. for NYC/Broadway)
kal (esp. for Hawaii)
Elvira (more so on Europe forum, but also here)
Neal Sanders
Bob Brown

And too many others to name. I have received some great info on this forum, which has helped me plan some wonderful trips in California, Arizona, Hawaii, New York, Florida, and lots of other places over the past several years -- thanks everybody! Keep posting those terrific trip reports!
|
My favorite posts are trip reports. For all the hundreds of inquiries here, we don't see many detailed follow-ups. I love reading about other people's travel experiences. It's so inspiring. For example, Hawaii has never been at the top of my list of must-sees, but I'd love to hear from someone who can convince me otherwise!

Well .... I'm waiting ... I'm still waiting .... puleeeze, I'm waiting ... okay, what if I promise to try harder the rest of 2001 ... and to stop advising people to take a taxi from Greyhound in NE DC ... and just agree to be good in general, and not advise people to wear black, black and more black in NYC ... and stop all my boosterism for Treasure Island, FL ... if I did all that, would someone please nominate me? I would be so thrilled, so would my cats, my DW, my ex. And I'll never make another non-travel remark, I swear. I'll even love it everytime Danny et al screw up the format. See what I'm willing to do to get my name on the walk of stars. I love Fodor's, I really do. Cha.

L~

You have my vote! You complimented me on my trip report to Chicago in March - made my whole day!

All the best,
becca

Tough crowd on the US board! Much like our country?

I like the people that not only offer suggestions but write with passion. A passion for travel and for life in general.

I'd like to thank ilisa and lisa2 for lighting a fire under Mrs Kal and I to return to DC after a 4-5yr absence for 4th of July week. (First round at the Cap City Brew Co is on us???).

Kalena for her love of the islands.
Margot for her love of our favorite island, Kauai...and for keeping me in line!
Kam for the No Cal/SF area pointers. I can always get some info on new places, restaurants, etc. even tho I'm only 100 miles away.

Cindy from Ohio for our zest for trips to NOLA. She almost has me on a plane for Key West, too.
We also share a zest for being able to "actually see" now when we travel! (inside Lasik joke.)

I did have a great time planning last year's European trip using the Europe board but still kind of like the rough and tumble on the US board. Sorry, I'm from California. ;^ )

Mucho mahalos and apologies to others who have helped me or brought a grin to my face while reading their stuff.
Kal

Thank you Wonderer, for your kind words. Now, why on earth would I be singing your name to the tune of The Wanderer?

It's been a busy week at work I have had little time for checking the board. When this question came up on the Europe side, I meant to write in the names of those whose advice is kind and as Kal says, passionate.

On that short list would be Ursula, StCirq, the fodorite friend who referred me to chowhounds.com on the foodie thread, and of course, toujours Kal.

There's many many others here that know their stuff or are specialists of one sort or another. You know who you are, and I don't want to insult by omission, but here's a few initials: R, C, DW, BB, P, G, E, S, L. Some of these names pop up more frequently on the europe board, but they'll occasionally cross-over. Oh, I almost forgot Scigirl and Melissa also here in Hawaii. Ladies, shall we do lunch sometime?
Aloha,
k

I'm not a regular here, but when I need information about Atlanta, Brian is great. When I was planning a trip to Florida, Patrick, Sal and Olive Oil helped alot. Kam has good information about California. I'm sure there are numerous others that I miss.
|
Wow, lau lau!! Lunch would be fabulous. Sidestreet?

Kalena, you give insightful advice on this and other countries. I don't think I notice other posters except you, Scigirl, and my sister <Burta>.
|
Well, where do I begin? Of course, with Becca, who made MY day with those kind words. And your Chicago report should serve as a paradigm for recapping what we find as we travel. It will go with me as I hit that windy city by the lake.

And Kalena, who included the "L" ... I noted it was last, but the last shall be first, and certainly not least. Thank you.

And jb ... I love FL, really I do (I boost west of Tampa), I leave the east to those experts. But why oh why didn't you oh leave oil with a "Y"?

I am happy ... life is good ... long live Fodor's!! Ciao
|
Aloha Melissa, Happy Lei Day!
Sidestreet sounds great, let's confirm the details. Write me above when you get the chance. We could do the blue ribbon thing :) Fun!
k

All posters offer valuable advice. We could have never vacationed in the Tetons without Howard's exceptional tips and recommendations. Howard, Ellen, Patrick and Caitlin for continuous NY information - which is highly accurate.
John and Meg have been a huge help for an upcoming NOLA trip.
|
Thank you, Elaine, for the kind words. To me, one of the great joys of travel is to be able to share your experiences afterwards. Offering others insights and the benefits of your experiences is what it should be all about!

top!

In an effort to make this thread as kind and positive as the one on the Europe forum, my favorites are (in no particular order, and I wish we would see them more often): Neal Sanders, Donnadjbooks, Al Clem, Patrick, Elvira, Wes Fowler, Brian, a woman named Joan in NO who doesn't post much anymore, Howard for NYC, Kal (or is it Kam) for Northern California, Maira, Nancy in Vermont; I'm sure I've left someone out, so I apologize in advance.
