Favorite Microbreweries In Portland?
We will be spending a couple of days in Portland in May and are looking for recommendations on great microbreweries in Portland as well as along the Coast from Astoria to the Redwood Forest.
Thanks! |

There are SO many good breweries here. One place right in downtown Portland has over 100 beers on tap, and that is Henry's 12th Street Tavern. So that would be a good starting point. BTW, it is a restaurant as well, and has a billiards room upstairs.
Other places we like are Pyramid, Widmer's, Bridgeport, Laurelwood, and Deschutes. If you head to Hood River, definitely stop at Full Sail. In Astoria and Newport stop at Rogue Ale House. Another place we like are the McMenamins which has several places in downtown, but also along the coast in Gearhart and Lincoln City. Another place on the coast (Pacific City) is the Pelican Pub. This should get you started:) |
You could also stay at either McMenamins Edgefield (in Troutdale) or the Kennedy School in Portland, where the brewery (plus winery plus distillery at Edgefield) is on-site, along with a movie theater and other delights. Try the Hammerhead IPA.
Fun places. www.mcmenamins.com |
Thanks for the suggestions! We are finding so many places we want to try, we may have to plan a second trip!

Definitely second the recommendations for Laurelwood and the Kennedy School. Henry's has a huge beer selection, but the interior of it is a little too "corporate" for my taste. I'll also add the Lucky Lab to the list of suggestions.
If you are serious about beer and a second trip to Portland, time a visit in July and visit the Oregon Brewers Festival at the riverfront. |
Other to consider:
Portland: Amnesia, Hop Works, Bridgeport, Widmer Gasthaus, Concordia Ale House and Mash Tun. Astoria: Ft George Stevenson, WA: Walking Man Mt Hood: Mt Hood Brewery in Government Camp Cannon Beach: Bill's Brewery Manzanita: Sand Dune Pub |

Thanks beanweb24. I had not seen that.....definitely going to have to plan a 2nd trip.

Remember, those on the Oregon.com website are only the brewpubs. Most good restaurants and bars in Oregon will have a nice selection of PNW micros.
Also, if you are flying in and out of Portland, the PDX airport is home to 2 Laurelwood pubs, one Rogue and a few others places that have good beer selections - all of these can be accessed by all travelers no matter what gate or concourse they are using. |
Rockbottom Brewery, excellent beer and food! Downtown portland.

I'll have to respectfully disagree with that recommendation. There are so many fabulous local beers (from both Oregon and PNW) to try at the microbreweries and pubs in Portland that I personally wouldn't want to spend my calories/brain cells at a chain.
