favorite long weekend destination?

Looking for a beautiful destination in the U.S. for a long weekend getaway with my husband and another couple. We live in Chicago and can fly anywhere that we can get with a non-stop flight. Looking for upscale accomodations. Thanks!

The Highland's Inn or the Tickle Pink Inn are both amazing places to stay in the Carmel Highlands area.

Big Sur, 17 Mile Drive, Pt. Lobos State Reserve and Monterey are all worth checking out. We just spent a very nice day in Monterey a couple of weeks ago. Have a nice trip and have fun with your planning! ***kim*** ((l))

Perhaps Las Vegas? With direct flight to anywhere, the big issue I guess would be flight time and how much that will eat out of your weekend...maybe a nice trip to a fancy hotel in NYC?

Or maybe across the border to Toronto?

For a fall/winter destination, what about the Royal Palms in Scottsdale.

Very deluxe accomodations, one of the best restaurants in the area, good shopping, and if you like to hike Sedona is about an hour or so away.

Are there not as many non-stop flights as there use to be? Chicago is a great hub but do they offer fewer nonstop locations these days?

if you can fly to Phoenix Arizona- there are some upscale resorts there like the Phoenician and The Boulders -both places have good golf courses. if you need more ideas for hotels try tripcart.com

There's no better spot then Islamorada in the Florida Keys.

Pooper Scooper time - you can't fly nonstop to Monterey, CA (Carmel doesn't even have an airport) from Chicago unless you have a private plane. #o

Have you thought about a nice weekend in Canada?

When we lived on the East Coast, it was Montreal or Las Vegas as well as Upstate NY and Philadelphia.
Still adjusting to the options on the West Coast :)

TTess, good work.

Okay don't laugh. Fly into SJC (San Jose, CA), and stay at the Fairmont, in downtown San Jose. Or maybe better, in Los Gatos at the Hotel Los Gatos. Or Hotel Valencia at Santana Row. All close enough to SJC. No scooper required. ;-)

Hello claveygirl!

Have you been to Marthas Vineyard/Nantucket (flying into Boston, driving to ferry)? Thats an amazing time!

Maybe Washington DC? I think that makes for an excellent long weekend as well!!

Also, how about Annapolis??

These happen to be three of my favorites so thats why Im suggesting them!

I checked on Expedia and it looks like there are direct flights to each from Chicago (BWI/IAD/BOS).

Also, if you stay in either Annapolis or DC you could easily travel to the other for a day trip! You could also throw Baltimore in there if you wanted to (in which case Annapolis would be the best location to lodge, being located, in general, b/w DC and Baltimore)!

Check it out:

How exciting! Let us know what you decide!

claveygirl, I strongly recommend the Wentworth Mansion in Charleston, SC. The Mansion (www.wentworthmansion.com)is wonderful and the city is full of charm and romance with lots of great places to eat. Also plenty of things to do. There are walking tours, plantation tours, and Ft. Sumpter to name a few. Here's my trip report of our getaway weekend there: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34773403
