Favorite historic homes in Savannah

We'll be traveling to Savannah in April for vacation and I'm doing my research. There's a number of historic homes to visit - what are your favorites and why? For the sights that charge, are there any kind of package deals that bring the cost down (like the Charleston Heritage Passport)?
Thanks!

I would highly recommend taking a downtown trolley tour. They have on and off privileges and will give you an excellent overview of the city and the historic homes and buildings. It's an excellent way to decide where you want to go and what you want to see.

I would highly recommend starting out by taking a trolley tour. It will give you an excellent overview of the city including historical homes and buildings. Many of these tours have on and off privileges.

Hi travelnatty,

Yes, there are special historic homes deals. I got the three-pass for $20 which gaves admission to the Owens-Thomas House, the Telfair Museum and the Jepson Center for the Arts. Only the Owens-Thomas House and the Isaiah Davenport House were open when I strolled around Savannah; both restored homes were worthwhile to observe some of the tastes and eccentricities of 19th century Savannah socialites.

Best wishes, Daniel

You might want to take a look at my trip report on Charleston and Savannah; click on my name to find it. We had an excellent private tour of architectural Savannah for $20 per person.

I agree with the Owens-Thomas house and the combo admission to the Telfair and Jepson is a very good deal. The cafe in the Jepson (overlooking the square and the Telfair) offers very good food, large portions and good prices. It's a local favorite. You may also enjoy the Davenport House.

Going in May and may be limited to one house tour. So which one should it be?

Owens-Thomas would be my pick.
