Favorite Georgetown (DC) restaurants?
What is your favorite restaurant in Georgetown? We will be visiting in a few weeks and are looking for suggestions. We are not picky eaters (in fact I think my husband will try anything). Would prefer something where casual attire is acceptable and prices are reasonable.

Check chowhound.com. Lotta DC foodies hang-out there....

I think that when people on this board ask for recommedations for restaurants in particular areas, they don't want to be referred to chowhound.com. That's a good source, but they are looking for Fodorites' recommendations.
I don't take all recommendations for "gospel," but I value some of the Fodorites personal recommendations. ((b)) |
Chowhound's a good alternate source. Sure, all the regulars know about it. But it's a good piece of info for those that don't.

Make reservations for my favorite place- Mendicino Wine Bar and Grill. Ooolala. Good fresh food, elegantly presented, great wines. It is small, as alot of places in G'town are, so be sure to make reservations before you go. I think the prices are good for what you get. It is on par w/the better places in G'town for price. You can get cheaper food at the Guards or the college hangouts like Mr. Smiths but that's not what I woudl choose in G'twon. Spend a little extra and try Mendicino.

One other thing- while there are alot of places to eat in G'town, alot of them in my opinion are just worn out. They've been there forever (eg. Filimono, etc.) and they just keep running but offer nothing interesting or exciting. It is good that you are asking for recommendations.

I also tend to avoid G'town. But, as mentioned above there are a ton of restaurants there - you'll walk by one every 20 feet. They all post menus outside. If you want to read about a few before going, here's a few to start with (cut and paste entire web address):
