Favorite Discount Travel Website?
 

What is your favorite discount travel website? I've used Expedia, Travelocity, Quikbook, Priceline, Hotwire, Hotels.com, PlacestoStay.com and HotelsDiscounts.com to name a few.

I haven't found one to be consistently cheaper across the board (not including priceline). Has anyone else?

I don't have a favorite, I check them all. Sometimes I use hotel's websites as they offer very competitive packages.

I usually check Orbitz & Expedia and then do a Hotwire check. Sometimes I resort to Priceline when I know things are pretty pricey, like London, NYC and Boston to name a few. Judy :-)

Does luxurylink.com count? Love their auctions! :)

I haven't really perused Luxury Link so I will have to check it out.

What I am finding is that these discounters for the most part eschew the smaller privately owned hotels and concentrate on the chains.

That is what's great about luxurylink. You can find small, exclusive boutique properties in their auctions. It's not by any means a comprehensive or extensive selection, but they offer some true gems. All are upscale properties aimed at the 'luxury bargain hunter' :)

Believe it or not, I have found cheaper rooms by going to the hotels website...Choice hotels is a pretty good chain with hotels all over the world...I often recieveed an "internet" discount when booking a room.

But I usually check out Expedia and have found that to be very informative and their prices are not bad...

travelaxe.com searches expedia and the others to find the cheapest rate. As you said, no one site offers the cheapest rates every time.

I don't think there's one place that's cheaper all the time for everything. That's why they all survive. Other sites that people have mentioned here are travelzoo, hotres, & I actually find hotels.com is sometimes cheaper than quikbook or has a different selection.

PS There was a thread yesterday about luxurylink. One poster said their auctions are great value (if you do your homework & figure out the max to bid) but the pkgs. you can just buy are often no cheaper that what you could do on your own. I have no personal experience.

A good selection of hotels in all the key places with good rates, and, most importantly, no pre-commitments to prices.

That should say no pre-commitments to a reservation. (One that you can't cancel!)

Priceline, most definitely. Travelaxe and Expedia to find the lowest possible price before bidding on Priceline.

I've had good luck with airline tickets with Orbitz and hotels with Priceline (but need to be fairly familiar with the city you're going to in order to bid and check biddingfortravel.com out first). Actually, the best luck I've had so far has been being sighed up for British Airways newsletter--got roundtrip tickets from Seattle-Malaga for Nov. for $449. I've also had good luck with Expedia. Another good link, especially for Spain is Petrabax.com.
