I was in Washington DC last weekend for the Cherry Blossom Festival. We headed over to Georgetown for the half price river cruise. You may want to look on Travelzoo. The offer may still be available. The line was really long though so we didn't wait. Last Saturday was a beautiful day.
There are several restaurants there on the river. We ate lunch at Nick's Riverside Grille. Our lunches were good. The atmosphere sitting outside on the river was fabulous. I'd go back there. There is also a wonderful gelato place right next door. |
Mmm, we went to the Good Stuff Eatery for lunch today and shared the President Obama burger and the free range turkey burger. Also had some rosemary fries. Thumbs up from both of us!
Had lunch at Oyamel and loved it. The guacamole made tableside was delicious. Loved the different flavors of little tacos and the aguas frescos.
And Ben's Chili Bowl at the Nats game. All great so far. Thanks for all the help!
Glad you're enjoying your time in DC.
How did you like Nationals Park?
We loved it. We took the baseball boat over from Old Town. Nats won in overtime! We thought the park was really nice.

Update- Meskerem did in fact close on April 15

Great article, yestravel. Thanks for sharing it.
Thanks, yestravel; I ate at an Ethiopian restaurant in D.C. years ago with girlfriends, and I think that was it.
At Dupont, we had brunch at Boqueria - not sure I would call it a favorite, but very good. Tapas/small plate place, and for $39 brunch you can order unlimited brunch tapas plus get unlimited sangria (3 kinds), mimosas or a selected beer. They will also just keep bringing you items in some predetermined order until you tell them to stop. They have a similar Happy Hour type thing. Food was interesting and good, sangria was fine, atmosphere very casual and fun.
If anyone is in the Old Town area, we also loved Virtue Feed and Grain. Nice atmosphere too.
As others have mentioned, make every attempt to fit in an Ethiopian restaurant.

A number of places have bottomless Sunday brunches. I'll look for some links and come back later with them...
ps. Bottomless doesn't mean "don't wear pants"... :) |

We're taking our 9yr old twins to visit DC over their Spring Break and will be staying a couple of blocks from DuPont Circle but will be bebopping around playing tourist...they're pretty good eaters these days and other than spicy or Indian food, will try new things. If you have any updates to your favorite eats around town, I'd love to have them. Thanks! OWJ |
Just added Bistrot du Coin to our list for October. The menu is fabulous! We'll probably be staying near Dupont Circle, too, which will be very handy.
I walk past Bistrot du Coin regularly. I've never been able to do so without being overwhelmed by the sound level -- SOOOOOO unpleasantly noisy!!! JMO.
Bistrot du Coin has average food and as mentioned it is LOUD. We had lunch there recently and it wasn't crowded so wasn't noisy, but the food was still barely ok.
Bistrot du Coin is on my gotta go to list. Try the moules au pistou - to die for! Noisy? Well, maybe, but if you want an intimate little rendezvous there are loads of alternatives. Have your tete a tete at one of them then come to BdC for the moules and convivial environment. The salade frisée aux lardons is scrumptious, as is the salade de Chèvre chaud.
BTW a few steps northward just across S street where Florida Ave intersects is Russia House. Ate there a week or two ago and it was OK but not fabulous. |
re: the Russia House. I certainly won't go back! Tried it twice, thought the menu overpriced and the service inconsistent, ranging from OK to decidedly not....
In that neighborhood, I've been very pleased with Mourayo: http://mourayous.com |
