Favorite body of water?
 

So this question on another board and thought I would ask here since I LOVE vacationing around water. Doesn't have to be fav in the U.S...anywhere, and tell me why please?
Mine is the Caribbean Sea because it is crystal clear and warm.

This reminds me of a scene in a Woody Allen movie in which a married couple argue whether the Atlantic or the Pacific is the better ocean. The audience laughed.

I never saw that movie, but I'm laughing from hearing your description!! :-)) That sounds like something my parents would have argued about--when they were still married.

Interesting question. I can't say I have a favorite body of water, but I do love anyplace with crystal clear water and good snorkeling. The Carribbean is great, but since our travel plans will be during hurricane season, we are going to Hawaii instead. :-D

iamq~how come Lake Tahoe? Curious, because I have never been and it is not all that far from us.

I want to say Long Island Sound b/c I grew up on it... but I really think the Lake District in England. (Do I have to pick one lake?) ;-)

gotta go with the waters in tahiti. however, my memories from childhood of going to Galveston, TX with my dad are great- that murky brown poluted water was soooo warm :) and big waves.

I grew up having summer vacations on the north shore at my aunt's cabin, so there is a strong sentimental attachment to the lake. The waters are crystal clear. The clarity of the water is actually better now than it was years ago. The scenery surrounding the lake is classic Sierra Nevada. Even though there have been lots of changes over the years, there are parts, paricularly along the California north shore and the west shore that remain very much as I remember it as a kid and not overdeveloped.

Vegasnative: If you like the clear, blue carribean, you should visit Lake Tahoe. Wear your polarized sunglasses. It is the most beautiful inland body of water you can swim that I have seen.

Lake Champlain (out of Westport, NY) Cold, clear, and gorgeous.

1. It's where I learned scuba diving in the late 40s and early 50s.

2. Learned water skiing behind my father's twin-engined 30' Elco. Also tried skiing behind a float plane. It usually took a day or two to get my legs back to normal...but what a kick.

3. Great fishing

4. "Champ," our resident sea monster. We'd float our own mock-ups past resorts to shake up the tourists.

5. Power boat races

All of this wrapped into a gorgeous lake we used to call 136 miles of heaven.

iamq, your reasons for liking Lake Tahoe have struck a chord with me, so I am now prepared to name my favorite body of water. That would be the little pond on my grandparents' farm. I'll never forget how much my sister and I enjoyed feeding the fish in the pond, catching the fish and throwing them back, and countless other memories. My grandparents are gone now, but that little pond will live in my memory forever. <sniff, sniff>

P M, I just took a stroll to my grandmother's pond. It was a memory for years - and now it's out my back door. Yes, it is 1/2 it's size right now because of the lack of the rain. But the pups enjoyed swimming...okay, wading... in it. I could "see" in my mind my grandmother sitting on an upturned 5 gallon bucket fishing with a cane (that she cut) with line and a bobber in the water. Ah, the joys of childhood summers. Of course, the water is FAR from the clarity described of Lake Tahoe.

Listen to us. And, we someone asks "where to travel for a x year old girl and a x year old boy to keep them entertained" why do we offer any suggestions than a campsite or cottage next to a lake?

We "world travelers" sure are a sentimental bunch. Wonder why we don't stay closer to home!
