Favorite Airport?
Sometimes I think, you've seen one airport, you've seen them all. What is your favorite airport to arrive in or have a stopover? I'm exluding, of course, your hometown airport.

This is already quite active in the AIRLINES forum
http://fodors.com/forums/pgMessages....p;tid=34376779 and where this belongs anyway. |
designmr, one of my favorites in the US is Chicago O'Hare. I know it's a terrible one as far as getting from one area to another, especially for a short connection, but I love all the shops. (like those Chicago hotdogs, too) Elsewhere, I'd have to say London Heathrow, again because of the shops. I love the Boots Chemist shops!

Las Vegas!!

Keflavik International Airport in Iceland is beautiful with hard wood floors in Leifur Eiríksson Air Terminal. All the shops are nice and they really have nice restrooms there. Perfect for a stop over on your way to Paris or Amsterdam. The worst aiport is Atlanta or Boston-Logan.

Koh Samui Thailand! It's all open air. Planes land, turn around ON the runway and taxi ON the runway, to a parking lot where passengers board a tram to the terminal! It's soooo exotic and tropical! It's at the top of my list, for sure.

Charlotte, NC. Not too big and it is open and airy.
Palm Springs because it is an open air airport. |
I love the Minneapolis/St Paul Airport. It is easy to get rental cars and there is food available on all the councourses in case we are in a rush. For a small airport, I love Ontario Intl. Airport in the LA Area. It is not busy and so convenient - beats all the other LA Area Airports for not causing stress.

Carol, you bring back great memories! I too have flown out of Koh Samui airport. Sitting outside in the beautiful tropical setting was great along with the tram ride to the plane. Some of other faves include Hong Kong and Singapore and in the U.S. I'll agree with Cali on MSP. I fly in and out of there quite often and I really like the convenience of the rental cars and it is a snap returning the cars also. After you return your car, you walk in the building, take a tram and you're in the main terminal. Great setup.

Incheon Airport, Seoul, Korea.
Felt like I was one of the Jetsons. It was surreal, especially after a 15-hour flight. In the US, I kind of like the Denver airport. |
Interesting notes on Koh Samui! If ever in Asia, I'll hope for a stopover. I agree with the shops in Chicago O'Hare, especially the number of Starbucks.
