Fav Washington DC Hotel
 

I've posted a message about which Marriott to pick (Crystal City or Gateway) and recived so many great responses that I'm starting to question my decison to stay in Crystal City.

What's your favorite DC hotel and why? I've found the hotels in DC very expensive, is it worth staying fewer nights and staying in the city? I'm travelling with husband and 7 year old son for summer vacation. Thanks for any help!

My favorite hotel in DC is whichever one Priceline chooses for me! I never pay more than $100 per night. I've stayed at the Marriott Wardman Park, Marriott Metro Center, Renaissance, Wyndham Washington, Omni Shoreham, and a couple other places. Frankly, all chain hotels are about the same, and very few hotels in DC are far from a Metro stop except for those in Georgetown. If I ever do get one that's isolated, I can pay for cabs with what I've saved on PL.

Although Priceline claims to request rooms for only 2 people, I've never had trouble getting 2 beds in DC; the only PL category where this might be a problem because of "boutique" hotels (with tiny rooms) is the 3* hotels in the White House zone.

For a thorough eduation in PL in general, and DC hotels in particular, you can't beat www.biddingfortravel.com.

Consider staying in Rosslyn -- the Courtyard there is convenient and not exorbitant.

OWCH. One Washington Circle Hotel. Twenty years ago I was living there for a few months and met my husband there. Ah, memories of youth, or at least of younger and more carefree days.

I agree with previous poster about Priceline hotel ,I just got Capital Hilton downtown four nites at $110 per nite on first bid. April 29,May 2.

I can't do priceline because we may have to be flexible with our schedule and I need to be able to change reservations if necessary. It's my understanding you can't do that with priceline (same with a lot of internet rates I found).

That's true, it's nearly impossible to change a PL reservation.

But many people book a cancellable reservation and then bid on PL at the last minute, when the supply of available rooms is often best anyway. You could still try PL after your dates are confirmed, if you have a backup res that can be cancelled.
