Fast-growing Washburn fire in Yosemite NP.

Wawona, Wawona Road south of Wawona, and the Mariposa Grove are closed until further notice. All other areas of Yosemite National Park are open. Use Highways 140 or 120 to enter Yosemite. Expect smoky conditions.

Update.

The fire continues to rage, doubling in size over the past weekend. Containment is 22%. The Mariposa Grove trees haven't burned, but they're still in danger. Temps are high; humidity is low.

Firefighters are using every tactic they can... bulldozing to create barriers, scraping the ground to bare mineral soil, wrapping some high-risk trees in fire-suppressive material, etc. The valley is full of smoke, and smoke has drifted all the way to the Sacramento Valley and the Bay Area.

One of the many dangers facing the firefighters is the huge updrafts. One plume broke a tree branch and sent it high in the air, just missing a fire-fighting aircraft and falling very near crews on the ground.

Needless to say, the Wawona Road (from Fresno direction) and the Mariposa Grove Road and all area trails are still closed. Glacier Point Road is closed until 2023. Reservations required to drive into/through YNP between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m.
