Fashion Faux Pas to wear white in Hawaii in Jan. & Feb.?

In Texas, I was raised to wear white after Easter and stop after Labor Day.

Does that rule apply to Hawaii??? <):)

this is a joke, right? Of COURSE you don't wear white after Labor Day! And ALWAYS keep a pair of clean white gloves in your matching handbag...

As someone raised on the West Coast, I was always taught that that was a quirky, old fashioned thing people in the east and midwest did. I've seen people in bikinis in the grocery store in Hawaii. Hawaii is the last place you have to worry about fashion rules like that.

With my mom, it was no white until after Memorial Day. And no white shoes unless your dress was all white or predominantly white.

But Hawaii is different, and it's summer all year long. It is one of the most casual places I've ever been. You can pretty much wear whatever you like, unless you're eating at La Mer or something, then you gotta change out of your shorts into something decent.

I love those old "rules". When I was growiing up NOBODY wore white shoes in San Francisco, at any time of year.

I though everyone knows you don't ever wear white in Hawai`i. You'll never be able to get the red / black dirt stains out of it.

I wear white whenever I feel like it, and I'm way past a certain age and was taught otherwise. I wear loads of white in warm weather, wherever I am, and whatever time of year that is.

I don't even know if I should dignify this with a response! No, there are no such kinds of fashion faux pas in Hawaii. don't wear a white hula skirt though.

What happened if someone died between Labor Day and Easter. Could you put your mourning whites on?

jtrandolph: So, Pat Boone never visited??? Or was that just the socks!? LOL!

So if you can't wear white shoes...

If you wear black patent leather shoes, I thought the boys could see up your skirt? :-d
