I used to love Farrell's when my husband and I were dating years ago. But the last time I tried Farrell's in San Diego, for a kid's birthday party, it really has gone down-hill. The food was awful, and the ice cream was NOT as good as Hagen Daz, Cold Stone, Ben and Jerry's, etc. I gotta say even McDonald's can give you a decent little mini hot fudge sundae. Also Farrell's gets competition for birthday parties for kids from Chucky Cheese.

I think we should stick with our wonderful memories of the way Farrell's used to be!

In San Diego we also have the Corvette Diner, which has better food and friendlier service than Farrell's...it's a fun place for all ages.

The Farrell's here in Santa Clarita is alive and well after the fires. It's actually located inside a Mountasia Fun Center which has mini golf, bumper boats, pinball games, etc.

Years ago, (many years ago!) I spent my 16th birthday at Farrell's on Van Nuys Blvd. We think my husband who was a waiter there at the time served us our "zoo!"

Oh, I remember the fun times of driving over to the Valley to go to the one on Van Nuys Blvd. So crowded and so good. Hadn't thought of Farrell's in years.

Le Ann,

I sent that site to my older brother and he was really wowed by it too.

I admit I spent a lot of time on the site and think I’ll do some posting there too.

Unfortunately, I read that Oberti is closing or has closed down.

Al would turn over. :'(

I have several friends who worked at the Farrells in Fremont, Ca. Many hilarious stories and a couple involve Zoos that ended up on the floor. I spent my 15th birthday at the location in Hayward at the Southland Mall...with Pildrege and that uncle in the bright blue jumpsuit.

On another visit our younger brother ordered a Pike's Peak...until dad realized what it was ( and how big) and chased the waiter down in the kitchen to stop him !

Pildrege - do you remember that?

Yes how could I forget? And I remember the shots of at least one family member smoking at the table.
Apparently you have forgotten how I spell my name though.

Oh boy what a memory! In the late 60s, very early 70s, Farrell's was on W. Point Loma Blvd, not far from where I lived.I think everyone at PLHS worked there for at least 15 minutes in their lives. It was a great place to go when you all had the munchies and could put together enough change from your pockets and the floor of the car :-) Of course if you went at the right time and knew someone on the crew you might not get a check at all :-))

Ah, such nostalgia. I frequented the Northwest Mall location in Houston.

Any thoughts of it returning to Texas?

Wow, thanks all for bring back some good memories. I worked at a couple of the stores in VA. They were up and down the east coast as well. Still remember the good times with running the zoos, doing the birthdays, and announcing the pigs trough/gibson girl/volcano. I started working there in 1980 and still have some very good friends from while I was there.

Thanks

Wow! Farrells Ice Cream brings back college memories of OSU in Columbus and sharing the "zoo" with sorority sisters plenty of years back. Columbus has such great ice cream choices between Graeters's, Jeni's, Denise's, and Johnson's, don't think Farrells could compete today. But this was good for a long buried trip down memory lane.
