Family Vacation to see snow in NC
Any recommendations to see snow in NC coming from Florida? Might try some skiing, cross country, tubing. Where is a good family place (indoor pool would be ideal). What else is there to do besides ski related activities? Thanks!

When do you plan to visit NC? Snow can be iffy in NC. There will be manufactured snow on the slopes, but I wouldn't count on being able to cross country ski.

Asheville is a charming town with lots of great restaurants and shops.

Definitely plan on the trip being in January or February, but I agree that seeing snow other than on the ski slopes is not something on which you can count.

Valerie,

Would you consider flying to your destination? Colorado offers everything you want and more--your family would love it. Steamboat and Keystone are both family-oriented and have great ski-schools (if you need them) plus have lots of apres ski options. It would be a fabulous vacation and you're guaranteed snow! Funny--we live in Nebraska and are sick and tired of snow in the winter--instead we dream of Florida :-)

We taught our kids to ski near Blowing Rock, NC. We were up there in Feb. and they just happened to get a foot of fresh snow (very unusual). In the vicinity are Beech and Sugar Mountains. Both offer all you are looking for, and hopefully snow. At Beech and Sugar, there are several condo complexes and motels that have indoor pools. We stayed at Chetola in Blowing Rock. It has an indoor rec center and all the amenities of town. They also offer ski packages. Unlike resorts in the North and West, you will not find any full service resorts (ski&stay) in North Carolina, except for Cataloochee in Maggie Valley. However, they don't offer the other amenities you require.
