Family trip to oahu next week!
Hi, me, my husband and 2 year old daughter are going on a 3 nights vacation to oahu next week. I've been there once few years back. Can anybody suggest a toddler friendly itinerary for my and my family for 4 days?
We love to sightsee, eat and just hang out on the beach. What is a great beach to just hang out, without those big waves (so my daughter can enjoy the water). Nice place to eat with a 2 year old. A good suggestion to spend the nights with a 2 year old. I know it would probably be hard to find those places that are toddler friendly so please, please help... your suggestions would really be appreciated ;0) |
Waikiki is a great beach to hang out. There are some sheltered parts with no waves at all.
At either end (Fort de Russy and Queen Kapiolani park) there are grassy areas, snack bars, bathrooms, and outdoor showers. The zoo and the aquarium seems like they'd be good for your group. |
At Kuhio Beach in Waikiki, there is a breakwall that runs for about 4 blocks. It is the main Waikiki Beach.
Honolulu Zoo is decent. You can stroll through it for a couple hours. Waikiki aquarium is OK. Maybe an hour or so there. Byodo-In Temple has peacocks, black swans & a huge gong. Dole Pineapple is good for kids. Sea Turtle often bask in the afternoon sun at Laniakea Beach on the North Shore. Children's Discovery Center is nice for kids. Though for 2 adults & one child, it may not be worth the cost. Free hula show nightly at Kuhio Hula Mound near Duke's statue. Lots of info: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34812564 |
The Hilton Hawaiian Village is a nice place to stay.
The Waikiki Zoo is nice for kids. We took our daughter (now 15) there when she was a toddler. Almost everything everywhere is kid friendly. |
Thanks for all the response. I have added your suggestions to our itinerary.
We are staying at the Princess Kuilani hotel, I hope the hotel is clean and decent and I think it is right across from the Waikiki beach, which we will be hanging out most of the time. Can you also suggest a great luau with show that my family can go to? We are also planning of stopping by the flea market at the stadium if it is still open. Last time I checked it is open every weekend and wednesday. Any thoughts on this. |
Normally I would recommend Polynesian Cultural Center as it has the best Polynesian entertainment in Hawaii.
But with only 4 days, you're probably better off at a different one. PCC would take up almost the entire day & you wouldn't get back to Waikiki until 10:30pm. Paradise Cove is a good one. Germaine's is decent. Thy have free transportation from Waikiki. Both are an hour from Waikiki. Hilton Hawaiian Village has one in Waikiki on Sundays & Wednesdays. Pretty expensive though. You might want to go to a Polynesian show like Creation: A Polynesian Journey at your hotel. They have the best Polynesian dancers on Oahu, including Pilialoha Gaison, Miss Hawaii 2006. It's in an indoor ballroom rather than a nice beach setting. The food is better at this one than at the other luaus. Coupon on this link for 25% off (20% off for cocktail show). http://princess-kaiulani.com/de_creation.htm You can also get cocktail seating for many Waikiki shows including Creation. Same show, you just get seated after everyone else has eaten. $78.00 for the Standard Dinner, $45.00 for Cocktail Show Your child would be free. Swap Meet is Wed, Sat, Sun. It is a few blocks from USS Arizona Memorial so you can do both at the same time. |
Thanks so much for the great tips. We are flying out on friday and we cannot wait ;-) I have checked out all the suggestions and they all sounds great and my daughter will surely enjoy our trip.
Until next time....... |
