family trip to keys?

planning a trip to Florida in April. Flying into miami, and presumed to stay at Hawks Cay for 6 nights, but have read mixed reviews. Traveling with 3 kids (10/12/14), and looking for a fun, active resort, with appropriate lodging and amenities. Key Largo, Key West, Miami, Fort Lauderdale? Looking to escape winter blues.

I've heard that Hawk's Cay is absolutely wonderful for small children because of their children's programs and separate pool for young people, but my guess is that your kids might be bored.

Admittedly, I have a natural prejudice for Key West but honestly think there is LOTS more to entertain your whole family there.

On the negative side, that might be during spring break, so no matter where you go you may find yourselves with a bunch of partying college kids.

Have you looked at Cheeca Lodge in Islamorada in the Keys? There's a small, easy golf course, tennis, swimming, etc. Plus great snorkeling available. You can fish from the dock and/or go out on a fishing charter. Plus a great spa for mom and dad! The Sonesta on Key Biscayne (in Miami) is another choice.

i am a fan of Hawk's Cay. i've stayed there twice with mine and on both occasions it sure looked like all the other ones there were having an absolute blast. i would recommend this as a place for families because of all the activities and action. on the premises are a variety of accommodations, pools, restaurants, a full service spa, miniature golf, a Kids' Club, tennis courts, and a dolphin program. you can take snorkeling, sailing, or kayaking trips too. we fly into Miami, rent a car and drive down and it's painless. if you are looking for a place to escape winter and the blues that go with it, Hawk's Cay fits the bill.
