Family trip in June - lodging suggestions
We are planning a trip in late June for a week. I've been looking at Homes to rent because we would be able to cook and have a family of 5 (kids 17, 13, 12) so the number of beds are important. I have found one near the Waterfront, Eastern Mkt, New York Ave, Brookland and Columbia Heights Metro stops. But now I see many hotels you talk of on the forum have full kitchens and Suites. Any suggestions? We would like to stay around $2000 for a week.

why dont you get a suite hotel and eat out

We're trying to cut down on the costs. We will eat out a couple of times, I'm sure.

This rental might be of interest.
http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p178410 It's on 16th St, between the Dupont and U St areas, which I think is a cool area. It's a (relatively) safe and interesting neighborhood, the Dupont Metro's a 10-min walk, as is the Whole Foods at 15th & P. The U St area has alot of interesting DC history, and then the White House and museums are walking distance south (25-30 min walk). I noticed another place on homeaway listed for up to 6 people in Woodley Park, but it only had 1 bedroom. If I had family coming in from out of town to visit for a week, I'd recommend they stay in the Dupont, Woodley, Cleveland park areas rather than the neighborhoods you listed. Part of that is based on safety and part of it is based on personal preference. |
Thanks for your response. That helps alot. We were thinking closer is better, but with the Metro system it sounds easy to get around. There are a number of them on VRBO.com that are in the areas you mentioned.

The only Metro station area for a family of the ones you listed would be Eastern Market which is quite good for a family - where exactly (or at least what block) is it?
The 16th one linked above is a nice area but I would prefer something a little closer to a Metro station (if that home is 10 minutes from Dupont Station, then it is a brisk walk). |
