family summer tour? depart atlanta?
My family wants to plan a reunion on wheels this summer... a bus departing from atlanta... one week max... little less is better. We will have have 4 year olds to 80's.
ANY ideas would be appreciated...
love activities that wouldn't be too physically challenging...
pretty scenery...
something to do at night... a play would be great!
Open for "home base" type trip---just going out on day trips from some city...
or ride awhile... sightsee awhile!
Thanks ALL ideas!!!

Hi Alise... We are:
1. leaving from Atlanta
2. tour up to 1 week
3. don't want ALL riding... so no extremely far distance... Branson or Wash DC or key west... would probably be as far as we could go.
4. some mountain or beaches would be fine... but we do want to tour too... the seniors don't want to watch swimming all day... or just "family game/social time"... we want to "see" things.
5. budget "moderate"... we don't mind paying for entertainment... but we're not going to stay at the Ritz either!
Thanks for helping me sort all the possiblities out! It IS a difficult request... but sure to great memories!

I'd head to North Carolina. Spend some time in the mountains, maybe see Chimney Rock and/or Grandfather Mountain. Visit Highlands and Lake Toxaway. See some theatre or concerts at either Flat Rock Playhouse (the state theatre of NC) or something in Brevard. Visit Biltmore House at Asheville. Maybe do a day rafting/float trip along the river on the NC/Georgia border. Possibly go into the Smokies and return to Atlanta via Chattanooga and Lookout Mountain.

www.flatrockplayhouse.org for more information.
Maybe I'm a bit prejudiced because I did three full summers there (my Equity apprenticeship-- some time just after the Dark Ages) but it's still an outstanding summer theatre . Also have dinner (or even stay) at the historic Woodfield Inn just a short distance away. It's almost like a scene from Gone with the Wind. We used to have the annual tea there and I swear some of the locals were alive during the Civil War (in fact they think it's still going on). Also Carl Sandburg's home is right across the back road from the Flat Rock Playhouse -- kind of interesting. And nearby Hendersonville is a charming town filled with arts and crafts and B&B's.
