Family sking at Monarch

Im planing on taking my family of non skiers to Colorado next Christmas ,
Ive taken them several times but always in June.
Is Monarch a good area for newbys?
Dont find a lot of info about this mountain as I do other areas.
I would love to hear from others on good places to learn, also thinking of staying in Frisco and sking Copper Mountain.
my wife will not Ski but would like to try other things.
I thought lessions would be a good idea
Thanks

I haven't skied at Monarch - I have only driven through the area, but I would not recommend it for a ski vacation. I think you would probably be happier in Summit County (Frisco area). You would be close to A-Basin, Keystone, Breckenridge and Copper Mountain. Lessons are a good idea and are available at all of these areas. You will also be able to find a wide variety of restaurants and shopping in Summit County. Monarch is much more isolated.

Monarch is a good beginner's area, but it is a little far removed and lodging is very limited, nothing like in other areas. There's nothing much to do nearby (except Salida hot springs pool), the area is small, and I agree that you (and family members)would be happier anywhere in Summit County, near the big resorts (and perhaps the outlet shopping?).
