Ok. This is great information. Thank goodness we have not booked anything. I am now leaning towards not going to Colorado March 31-April 5. I hate slushy snow, ice and bad skiing conditions. Of course, I can't have it all right? Yes-- the El Nino patterns are worth considering. Everyone has chimed in and I appreciate all the info.

You are right in that March is usually one of the best months for snow in Colorado. The problem is that you are essentially talking about the first week of April and unless there is an above average dump of snow in March warmer temperatures in late March and early April can mean less than ideal conditions.
Again it may be fine or it may be the begining of sketchy conditions. Remember that most beginner runs are on the lower half of the mountain where snow melt is more of a factor.

Just wanted to add that while conditions may not be ideal for many skiers, beginner skiers will very likely be fine. Not knowing about excellent conditions. fresh powder which they wouldn"t be able to ski anyway they"ll not notice nor should it be a big factor while skiing beginner slopes. All the ski resorts are experts at making the best of snow condiotions. Grooming and snow- making has made a huge difference in skiing when conditions may not be perfect.

historytraveler-- rereading the comments-- you think Keystone will be fine? or is there a better one to go to. I have been to Copper, Winter Park, Beaver Creek, Snowmass, Vail, Deer Valley, Park City, Breckenridge and skied in Japan. Thanks.

I think others answered you up above about the same as this answer==. I do not think Keystone is as much fun or as nice as almost anywhere else in the CO mountains!! Breck would be "cutest".
For beginners, look at Copper.

We ended up in Keystone and LOVED it!! Stayed in town. Great place. Great dining. Skiing was great. Ski school awesome. We were actually spoiled. So much snow so few people. It was like being on a private mountain. And the ski schools was like private for my family bc no others came. Thumbs up!! So helpful everyone. THanks.
