Family of 5 - Help!

We are a family of 5 (three boys,14,8 & 8) traveling to Hawaii the end of June for 13 days. I would appreciate any suggestions on where to stay. I am considering staying in Honolulu for a couple of days and then going on to Maui, possibly for a week and then returning to fly out. I really need to keep the lodging expenses down and think a condo would be our best bet for most of the time there, however the large resorts with the great pools would thrill them. I could possibly afford at least one night at one of those, if they would take 5 people without having to get 2 rooms. Please give me your advice. Thanks!~ Frustrated Mom?

Instead of 13 nights why don't you go for 8 or 9 and stay someplace nice that is exactly what you want?

Honolulu is by far cheaper then the outer islands. The only hotel I know of in Waikiki that has condo accommodations is the Aston Beach Tower Waikiki. It starts at $300 per night.

Eliska,
I'm in the same situation. Travelling in July with 3 kids (14,12 & 4). I've purchased all the books in "The Ultimate Guidebook" series. I've visited all the websites possible and found a few very good condo deals. We're spending the first 3 days at the Aston at the Waikiki Banyan. It's a 3 star which accomodates 5 people. Price is very reasonable. The following week will be spent in Maui but I still haven't finalized which condo. Maui condo has some very good deals. Check with them at www.mauicondo.com. I heard very good things about Kihei Surfside located in South Kihei. That area might be your best bet with 3 kids. Let me know how it works out. Good Luck.

Hi Eliska - Sorry, I can't help you out with the family lodging dilemma. However, we were going through the same problems trying to coordinate several islands and flights with our trip. We ended up finding an American Airlines flight from the mainland (Ft Lauderdale to LAX) to Honolulu, but leaves directly from Maui back to the mainland (LAX to Ft Lauderdale). This saves having to go back to an island you've already visited and the extra inter-island flight. The price was quite reasonable and it allows you to spend more time enjoying the islands and less time traveling between them! Good luck with your plans.
