Family hotel near universal/hollywood

Hi,

Would like advice/personal experience for hotels near universal Studios in Hollywood. The Sheraton and Hilton seem closest, but would welcome any tips.

Stayed at the Sheraton with kids and it is very close, but took the shuttle as we were tired. The Hilton is actually walking distance though. Either would be fine, both have pools, etc.

If cost is an issue and you have a rental car, consider staying in Burbank - just a few minutes drive to Universal Studios. Burbank has a Holiday Inn, A Courtyard by Marriot, and an Extended Stay America Suites.

Also, in Hollywood there's the new Renaissance Hotel that's been having some decent special rates. The subway just outside the hotel goes directly to Universal.

In August 2001 we stayed at the Best Western Hollywood Hills, somewhat down-scale from the Sheraton or Hilton. But it's quite a nice little old-style hotel with a definite Hollywood theme, situated at the bottom of the hill with the (Hollywood) sign.

It's within a few minutes of Universal Studios (by car), and within walking distance of the Walk of Fame and Grauman's Chinese Theater.
