WANTING TO TAKE FAMILY TO NY IN JUNE FOR YANKEES GAME AND THE USUAL TOURIST SIGHTS. I WOULD LIKE A CLEAN HOTEL TO TAKE KIDS TO. AGES 9 AND 12. CAN GET REASONALBE RATE AT SALISURY. IS THIS OK WITH KIDS? OR SHOULD WE JUST DO THE HOLIDAY IN MIDTOWN. WHAT BETTER MIDTOWN OR TIMES SQUARE AREA WITH KIDS. WANT KIDS TO HAVE VACATION OF LIFETIME ON A MIDRANGE BUDGET. I'VE BEEN TO NY ONCE WITH GIRLFRIENDS FOR SHOPPING. I LOVED IT AND WANT MY FAMILY TO EXPERIENCE IT.
ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
WE CANT DECIDE ON HOTEL. WANT TO SPEND LESS THAN $200 A NIGHT. I AM NOT COMFORTALBE DOING SOMETHING LIKE PRICELINE. I DONT LIKE NOT BEING ABLE TO CHOOSE MY HOTEL.
THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ADVISE.

LIBBY - WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING AT US???
THE SALISBURY SHOULD BE FINE BUT I WOULD STAY CLOSER TO TIMES SQUARE IF I HAD KIDS ALONG JUST BECAUSE IT IS THE CENTER OF THE WORLD.
|
Libby, I have used priceline many times before w/o any problems, it's a good way to save $$. As mentioned on this board many times, go to www.biddingfortravel.com to get the low down on how to bid. Good luck.

Try quikbook.com for discounted hotel rooms. They're the best of the discounters in my experience.

The Salisbury is VERY close to Times Square without being in the middle of it. One and a half blocks.

visit www.hospitality.com and you'll find info about their apt/hotel bldg at 48th/3d. It's a doorman building in a bustling neighborhood....with one bedroom accommodations (and a futon or pull out couch in the living room) for right around your $200 budget. Highly recommended. There's a complete kitchen, so breakfast/lunches with the kids can be cents-ible.

Oh, give her a break....Libby probably doesn't realize that caps = shouting.

I have always booked with HotelKingdom. I like them because you only put a small deposit down (usually $10.00) and the rest is paid when you check out. They have a great selection of hotels in all price ranges.

Stayed twice this year at the Belvedere and noticed many families staying there. The room is large with two queen beds with a kitchette. The location is great, only two blocks from Times Square and near many subway lines. I booked the hotel twice through Quikbook and with taxes spent about $150 a night, but you can also try their website www.Newyorkhotel.com. They also have a a toll free number at 1-888-hotel58.

Sorry. No I did not know caps meant shouting. I have not used this before.
Thanks for all the suggestions though.
We always stay at the Doubletree in Times Square when we are with the kids. We like having a suite (they have a seperate bedroom and a queen pull out sofa in living room) - and it really is about the same price as a regular hotel room. Often they include full breakfast too. Watch out for the porno on the cable TV in the bedroom (TV in living room has no porn).

Getting from Times Sq. to Yankee Stadium could be a bit of a challenge for the uninitiated (actually, it's harder to get back with everyone leaving the stadium at once).

I second the recommendation for quikbook.com. Usually i phone them and have always found the people there to be incredibly helpful scouting around to see that they have quoted the "best" hotel for the price. They seemt o know NY and are willing to go the extra couple of minutes in the customer service area.

Both the Doubletree and and Belvedere are good recs. Good area etc. Priceline is tricky if there are 4 of you--i have only used it when there are 2 of us in NY. Not worth the risk.

Enjoy the game!

Another vote for quikbook.com

Also, if you book with them early & later see the rate for your hotel go down, just e-mail quikbook and they make the adjustment.

A nice compromise in area might be the Gorham Hotel. It is at W55th, so is in Midtown West, near Times Square but without the bothers of actually being AT Times Square. And, you can get a suite for you & your kids. All rooms and suites have kitchenettes whcih are always handy with kids in tow. Have fun.
