Sorry, one more thing...
You can easily see both houses in the morning, then have the entire afternoon to spend tubing, etc in Ohiopyle. Sounds like a fun day to me!

We stayed at 'The Lodge at Chalk Hill', which was clean, convenient, close to FW, inexpensive, and adequate for the night. ((*))

Jed - thanks for the recommendation. I did run across this hotel early on in my research and the rates are good. Its very helpful to have more feedback. Its still a toss-up if we'll use Pittsburgh as our base or split the visit.

Bennnie - here is another lodging option to look at. I have not stayed here, but every time we drive to the Ohiopyle area, we stop for lunch or dinner here. It looks charming to me -depends on what your tastes are. I think you said you were traveling with a group of girls - maybe this is too much of a 'romantic' spot. Still a good place for a meal.

I retract my statement that Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob are 1/2 hour apart. Hey, I wasn't driving, and for all I know my husband took a wrong turn and called it "the scenic route". He does that sometimes :) .

swaymock - thanks for the tip on the restaurant. I don't think we would stay there but it sure looks like a nice place to have lunch or dinner.

And I've taken a few of those "scenic routes" myself so I can relate.

If you really want to enjoy your time in the Laurel Highlands, then I would base yourself there. There are so many things to do in Pittsburgh and the Laurel Highlands, and with 2 days you wouldn't do it justice.

You could stay at the River's Edge cafe and B&B in Confluence.

Kentuk Knob is 7 miles from Fallingwater. ((*))

The Laurel Highlands have so much to do that you can't even cover it in the time period you have. I would leave Pittsburgh for another trip. There is Falling Water, Kentucky Knob, Ohiophyle State Park, Fort Necessity, Ligoner, Fort Ligoner, Johnstown, etc.
