Fallingwater

We're planning to visit Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater in western PA some weekend this Fall. Where is a good place to stay in the area? We're bringing our sons, 9 and 14 (the later a budding architect or engineer).

Although we haven't stayed there...I believe that the nicest place is the Nemacolins Woodlands Resort. After that, it seems as though it is local motels..not even chains.

You will enjoy Fallingwater

Look for hotels in or near to Ligonier, PA. Fallingwater is probably the prettiest of FLW's designs. Too bad the rhodedendrons won't be blooming!

Depending on which direction you're coming from, Somerset may be an option - there are a fair number of chain motels/hotels there and it's not too far from Fallingwater. Also it's off a turnpike exit. And as a Pittsburgh native, I can recommend a stop here as well. We're certainly within a day trip of Fallingwater.
We'll be coming from Baltimore. About a 4 hour drive, I think.
I saw a reference on the Web to nice sounding B&B in Confluence. Something like "River's Edge". If it were Spring, we could get in some rafting too (which the kids would enjoy much more than my wife would).

There are a number of places in Ohiopyle,PA as the previous poster mentioned, "local" in nature. We've stayed in several when we've gone to go rafting. It is a lovely area.

bill,my husband and i just stayed at nemacolin woodlands resort and i can tell you it it just beautiful.ther's miniature golf for the kids and some other activities.they also have 2 other golf courses, mystic rock which is really something as well as the links.it is expensive,though.265-295/night.they have a web sight nwlr.com.good luck.i travel through confluence frequently and there is not much of a selection of things to do or places to eat.there is another very nice resort about 1 hr.fom fallingwater called seven springs mt.resort.they have octoberfest days goning on from the last weekend in sept.to the last weekend in oct.their web sight is www.7springs.com.only problem is they book up quickly in the fall and you might have trouble getting a reservation.

Be sure and take the private tour. It is early in the day, a little more expensive, you need to make reservations, but well worth it. It is limited to about 20-30 people. Have a great time. It really is interesting.
Frankly, I would not stay in Somerset, not much in the way of nice places to stay, I would take some of the other recommendations.

Just got back from or trip to Fallingwater. We stayed at Nemacollin Woodlands Resort.
WOW! as to both!
Nemacollin is great, with plenty to do for the kids and a Sunday brunch to die for.
The "extended" tour of Fallingwater was supurb.

- Bill

Too late for your trip but wanted others to check out B&B called Paddler's Lane near Confluence, not far from FW. They have a nice website and are really nice people. Tell them Tyra from California sent you!

Two great ideas. Thanks! I hope to go soon!

I believe this is a new record: Topping an 8-year-old post in order to advertise.
