Fall trip ideas for a big group of friends please!

I'm in charge of organizing a trip this fall for a group of friends (late 20's/early 30's, singles, couples, and husbands/wives. No kids).

We are aiming for September, October or November for approximately 2-4 nights. Ideally, we'll want to relax during the day (maybe some sightseeing, maybe spa treatments, shopping, etc.) and then plenty of action at night (funky bars, restaurants, clubs, but age appropriate). Plus, we want to stay at a hotel near activities so we don't have to drive around too much.

Since we are all coming from different locations, I don't have budget constraints at this time, however the more "reasonable" the better.

Any suggestions? I'm sorry if I sound so vague; it's a big group of people to make happy!

Thanks in advance :)

Coming from different locations--more info please--across the US? How about somewhere in Colorado?

pijeta Mar 18th, 2008 01:31 PM

Sorry TrvlMaven. Yes, different locations throughout the U.S. (Florida, Texas, California, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and New York).

Any specific locations in Colorado that you recommend over others?

Thanks.

I should also mention, we are not opposed to any of the locations that we are from, so please don't exclude options from those states.

Thanks again!

New Orleans ....?

Try Park City, UT. Free in town transportation, short ride from SLC, very reasonable fall rates, great options.

I was thinking of the Broodmoor or Vail or even Aspen--in the fall is beautiful. Estes Park?

How about Albuquerque/Santa Fe in early October? It will be beautiful, and the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta will be on. www.balloonfiesta.com

How about a cruise?

Carnival has a ton of great hips to choose from. And the action is usually real lively at night.

On every ship you can find bars, clubs, and nightlife.

And with a cruise you are not saddled with one destination. A four or Five night cruise will stop at three or four ports.

I agree that a cruise would be a great idea for a group of friends. It is easy to spend time together, but also easy to go your own way so you wouldn't have to be together 24/7. There is no driving, and a variety of things to do during the day and night. Depending on which cruise you would pick, there would be great shopping and even the possibility of seeing the nightlife at some of your ports of call. We took an eastern caribbean cruise last year and stopped in Aruba. We didn't leave Aruba until 1 AM so we had a chance to go to a bunch of local bars and had a great time!!

I would normally agree that a cruise would be a great idea, however, the timeframe you are talking about is hurrican season, otherwise, a cruise is great fun.I would pick Royal Caribbean over Carnival, though.

Vegas?

I think New Orleans fits the bill perfectly. You definitely don't need a car and can walk to all the attractions from your hotel, the nightlife is suburb, especially for people in their 20's/30's, and in the day there are plenty of sights to see, shopping, or you can relax at many of the hotel spas. It will be warm enough in September and October to lounge around the pool and swim, if you so desire.

I can think of no better place that fits your requirements.

Your description of a place to go has New Orleans written all over it. October is the best month and you'll have plenty of things to do during the day and loads of great restaurants and funky, funky nightclubs at night. Perfect, just perfect!
