What time of year? This itinerary is good for first week of October.
Surprised you picked Sutton, a very small town, but it's in a good location between New London (pretty college town, some great views) and Warner (nice small town, very small downtown area but you can go up Kearsarge St to the top of Mt Kearsarge). Warner has a large foliage festival over Columbus Day weekend. Check out Book Ends, an independent bookstore, which displays some art by David Carrol and his wife. He's the author of several books on turtles and swamps. Wonderful illustrator. But I like the view best if you take the auto road up the Wilmot side of Mt Kearsarge. There's a small state park and hiking trails at the top. Really nice views looking toward Lake Sunapee. It won't be any where as crowded as N Conway. There's also a small lake in Sutton, very quiet, and a small farm museum Musterfield Farm. Probably won't be much happening there during your visit, but it's very peaceful. Since you will be close to Hopkinton NH you should visit Gould Hill Apple Orchard where they grow many varieties of apples (see their website). Also pretty nice view from their tiny parking lot. Where will you return rental car? |
Great info - thank you
Dates are Arr Albany Oct 7 and finish in Montreal Oct 14 for cruise departing for NYC Oct 16. Have negotiated pick up of rental car in US and drop off in Canada |
Do you mean you are staying in Sutton Quebec, not Sutton New Hampshire? If so there are different things to do in that area which is known as the Eastern Townships. There are vineyards, lots of fruit orchards. If you search in the Canada forum for Eastern Townships you will see some suggestions

That's Sutton Quebec Canada

Remember this the color flows from north to south so while the trees probably won't be bare the peak color will be down in Massachusetts and fading in northern NH/VT/ME. Other than that the rest looks ok. I do think you might have a more relaxing trip (I rarely take this advice) but if you traveled a little less you might be more relaxed. With a day in each place or two, you will find that you are going to need a vacation after your vacation... (Hmmm I should take this advice also.)
